key wont work

alright guys i got a 90 awd talon and havent been able to get a key that works in the ignition.

i went to a locksmith and had a key cut from using the number on the door handle. it worked on the door handle and the hatch but not in the ignition. he cut it and told me it would turn in the ignition. it didnt work though. the steering wheel is locked and cant turn the key at all. i sprayed the ignition with wd40 and nothing. i kept on trying to turn it and nothing
what else could my problem be???

i turned the steering wheel to see if it would turn by turning the key at the same time. and nothing.

what should i do?

Well, if the key won't work in it and it does the other two locks, that would suggest that perhaps the lock is bad, or some one had it re-coded and didn't tell any one.

Have the lock smith to come out and blank the ignition key. It takes a while and it's tiedious on the lock smith, it can be done.

You don't want to have to pull that key and tumbler assembly as a unit.

You won't like the fun that will bring. It's a theft proof type of unit and has those broken bolt heads for security measures. It can be done, but when you are done, you will want to start the "ignition switch is a ****h thread.

crap.. so this is gonna cost me some bucks then i guess. i thought it would be something kind of simple to fix....

Hey I am a locksmith here in Ga, the only thing i can tell you is check the owners manual (if you have one) and see if the key code was written in by the dealer as already stated the lock may have been replaced or rekeyed, but I doubt it seeing that the key works both the doors trunk ect. he would have rekeyed all of them at the same time. if you can get the code from the owners manual PM me and I can mail a key cut by code to you. It also possible that the doors locks were replaced call back that locksmith and tell him the key he made isn't right. make him make one for the ignition. Hope this helps.

i unfortunately dont have the owners manual anymore. ill try going to the locksmith and telling him that the key didnt work. thanks a lot man. ill try and do what you said.

May sound stupid, but make sure your turn your steering wheel while you are turning the key, if the steering column locked. I have had many a car that required doing both the unlock the ignition and steering column.

yeah i tried that a lot but no luck. i think im gonna have to get a key made but dont want to make the locksmith guy come over. hes gonna charge me a lot of money. he told me 60 or 70 dollars if he comes over. i think i might have to remove the ignition switch all together. how do i do this? is it possible and is it difficult?

yes it does. it works perfectly fine in the others. im thinking they might have switched out the ignition lock and i have to get a key made for that specific lock. is this right???

It's possible that the ignition switch is different but not likely.
What's the background on the car?
Is the steering column locked right now? I know you tried moving the wheel but that the usual cause.

just go to your nearest junkyard and find an ignition with a key and if it has them all other locks too

i guess its locked. it doesnt move almost. i cant turn it because i need the right key... i guess.
but i did go to a junkyard and they do have the ignition and the door handles but they said they want 75 for the ignition and 25 for each door handle. i think this might be my last resort. but i also think that i might just get a key made for my specific ignition.....
do you think this would be the best thing for me to do???

the car is a parts car. it is a junk car. but i want to get it running for the best way and cheapest way possible. you know what i mean
