1st Gear Problem (This One May Be Little Different)

I've read a few threads on people having problems with first gear, wheter it be grinding, having hard time getting into first and popping out of first gear...well my problem is kinda similar but doesn't involve all of the problems above.

I just bought a 96 GST the car has a fresh motor with only 2,000 miles on it however I don't believe the tranny was ever touched/replaced/rebuilt at all, other than a new clutch being put in at time of motor install. I've read about people putting their car into first and it popping out except I haven't found anyone that explained it the way mine happens just yet...So I put my car into first goes in perfectly with no grind, no struggle, as soon as I let off the clutch BAM pops out into neutral except it just doesnt just nudge out like the way most people describe theirs, it literally makes a huge popping noise and scares the living crap out of me everytime (car sounds like it just stalled) except car is still on and running. It doesn't happen "everytime" I put it into first gear, except I'd say 1 outta 50 times I put it into first it'll happen, and oh yeah it ONLY happens in first gear...can anyone explain what might be wrong? Am I looking for a future tranny rebuild? Synchros? Thanks Guys...

Possibly the shift fork is broken

Two things. Don't keep doing it as it only makes things worse if you want to rebuild it. Pull the trans and have someone look inside of it. Or, you can find a "good" used one here in ther forums or from one of the sponsors.
