Hey guys, I threw the P0170 code for fuel trim malfunction yesterday. A couple of days ago, I wanted to see how the car ran venting. I know...I know:nono: I'll never do it again though. I drove for about five minutes, and recirculated it again. Since that, I'm running super rich, and I now have the P0170 code. I searched previous posts, and I am replacing the plugs and wires tomm, and will do a boost leak test. I don't think it's the 02 sensor, cause it's only 2 months old. Boost and vacuum are still reading the same as before. Anybody know why venting would of caused this? Thanks

Yes venting threw you off, but putting it back on wont just fix the problem. Dissconnect the battery, and let it sit for 20 minutes. It will erase the code. Hook it up and drive it for alittle bit it will reset the fuel trims and such. You should be fine, and dont vent you'll gain nothing but problems.

Thanks man, I'll try it tomm. You still up at South?

Ohh yea man whats up ? Im still up there....writing a paper right now haha. Taking a small break. When you up there ?

Yea you dont want to vent that either its not worth it.

Im up there every day this semester. I tried unhooking the battery, and reconnecting it, but the light came back today. My new wires should be here tomm. and I will see if putting those in with new plugs helps.

You need to get ahold of a code reader to erase the code and reset the ecu. In my case I have a friend who has a solus scanner on-board automotive diagnostic tool, so whenever we run into problems such as these we take care of them asap. Goodluck with getting rid of the code.

Yea Im in the computer lab now. Do you know anyone with a logger ? They can pull the code for you also i think autozone rents the obdII tool but not wihtout like 120 down first haha let me know what happens

No, I don't know anybody around here with a logger, so I guess Autozone will have to be my last resort. Also, I don't know if it would be a cause, but I had an alarm installed the same day that I vented, and I noticed that they ran a wire to one of my injectors. This couldn't of caused this somehow could it?

I would definately look into the injector thing that sounds weird.

Well I put in new plugs and wires, reset the computer, and it came back the next day. Going to try calling the place I got the alarm installed, and see if the wire they ran to the fuel injector could of caused this.

Just an update, I changed out the front O2 sensor with a factory mitsubishi one, and problem solved. I guess my car didn't like the Bosch O2, even though it was only a month old. Just wanted to tell everyone what it was for searching purposes. Mods feel free to close this.
