Ok last night i put my cat back in so i could go get my inspection today and fixed an exhaust leak up at the manifold from a loose exhaust stud. It took a couple tries to get the leak fixed the best i could. In between each try i went and started the car to see/hear if it was still there and this was no problem. The car stayed running till I turned it off.

The last time i tried it started right up as usual but after maye 5 seconds or so it just died. So i crank it again. It starts right up but again dies in about 5 seconds. So i go look under the hood to see if maybe i unhooked something with out noticing but i can't find anything. The ecu isn't throwing any codes. I can turn it over as many times as i want and it will start right up but die again.

The mas is plugged in i checked that. I'm running a 3" gm mas in the UICP. That was actually something i thought of because it's the same basic thing that i've had happen when i forgot to plug it back in before. Also one more thing when i start the car even if i rev it up and give it gas it still dies. Giving it gas has no effect on the problem. It still just dies after 5 seconds.

Anybody have a clue on this i'm stumped.

See if you can keep it running with carb cleaner being sprayed through the intake boot. If it keeps running, well, you know the ignition is working ok. If it dies, well, you know to start looking at the ignition. Listen to the injectors to see if they are clicking sharply. If they quit and the engine dies while spraying carb spray, and you are losing spark, it's an ignition problem. If they quit clicking and you can keep it running with carb spray, then it's likely an ecm problem.

Try these and let us know.

Good LUck

I'll try that just as soon as i get comeone to come give me a hand. The car doesn't stay started long enough fo rme to start it and run around and attempt this.

I was thinking maybe the ecu was messed up but i had it out 2 weeks ago to install DSMLink and i didn't notice it looking bad or smelled and fish for that matter. But i guess it is a possibility.

My car did the same thing, but it was because I unhooked the brake booster line that runs into the intake manifold. Probably not your problem, but I would check to see if you knocked off a vacuum line.

Actually it does act like when i forgot to hook the line to the pcv valve back up. But that isn't the case here.

As for the fuel pressure, unfortunately i don't have a gauge quite yet so how should i go about trying to check? And i changed the fuel filter maybe 12k ago.
