my car is throwin p0125 "excessive time to enter closed loop fuel control "at me. what does this mean and how do i fix it. what do i need to check and were do i check it. thanks

You get a P0125 when the vehicle meets the requirements for going into closed loop (178 degrees or greater engine temp, intake temp between 32 and 122 degrees, engine rpm between 2400-4000 rpm) have been met and the proper length of time has elapsed since these critera have been met (over 30 seconds) has occured without the vehicle going into fuel control. This would be the cycling of the O2 sensor rich to lean.

I see you have a pocket logger, what are your fuel trims at? Is the O2 sensor cycling? If they are not, check to make sure the O2 sensor heater is working. You aren't altering fuel pressure, MAF or anything? You could also have vacuum leaks which are keeping the vehicle lean or simply are running rich due to fuel pressure, injector changes/problems and the like.

If you can watch the O2 sensor from start-up, watch to see if the O2 sensor starts to cycle after you meet the above criteria....

I was getting this as well at one point . . . turned out the front O2 wasn't spitting out a reading soon enough after starting the engine (should be roughly 30 seconds).

Might want to look into that.

not trying to bring back the dead, but i'm having this problem too, and this seems to be the only thread with any info....

so it's most likely an 02 sensor problem? if it wasn't...what else could it be? i don't have a logger or anyway to check fuel trims etc...

Could be the o2 sensor but I would check to see that the engine is warming up to operating temperature first. A thermostat that is stuck open or below stock temperature range would be a common cause.

hm..alright...it's weird this only happens at night to. so check the thermostat....anything else to check or how to do it as well?

i guess another question is...is the car safe to drive until i can really check into it..?

Yeah it should be fine . . . I believe a failing O2 sensor is the only reason that code would be thrown.

yea i was wondering why an 02 sensor problem would throw one code and not the actually 02 sensor code. is it because it's in the process of dying but not enough that OBDII says so?

I screwed up. Re-read post #2. All the criteria to go into closed-loop have been met but the o2 sensor still isn't cycling. Forget what I said about the thermostat. Focus on your o2 sensor and fuel delivery. Your o2 sensor may be reading properly but if the sensor heater is dead it won't start reading soon enough.

I have a 1995 talon tsi, im getting a p0170 can anyone tell me what to look at for the problem?also a p0125.

It's not getting up to temperature causing it to run rich according to those codes. Check your coolant temp sensor for the ECU and see that the wires are not broken, or does your temp gauge ever get up to the middle? Your thermostat may be stuck open.

This may cause it to get stuck in open loop and constantly run rich throwing the fuel trim code.

So I've got the same question as the original post...

My car has been running fine for a while, the only strange things that happened today before the car threw the 0125 code were 1) the car had trouble starting... I had to cycle the starter 2-3 times before it fired up 2) the fuel pump seemed to be louder than normal (walbro 255) the whining noise fluctuated with the turn signal... everything I read on the forums say the whine is normal, but I don't remember it being this loud.

All mods are in my profile are up to date, the only other thing I can think of is I swapped out the stock 180 thermostat about 2 months ago for 170 degree thermostat to prep for summer... thoughts?
