Car won't come out of second, dies at stop, no speedo...

OK, '99 Eclipse GS auto tranny.

Driving along at about 15mph, tranny felt like it slipped.

Came to a light, came to a stop, rpms dropped down really low, I gave it a little gas and they went back up to normal idle.

Started off from that light, car seemed to be in second, and wouldn't come out. Noticed the speedo was at 0, and wasn't moving.

Came to the next light, idle dropped, and then the car stalled. Now this is an auto car. Popped it in N and started it back up.

Drove the rest of the way home seemed like it was in 2nd the whole time, never did shift.


Any ideas?? I'm thinking maybe my speed sensor went bad, but would that affect the idle and the ability for the transmission to shift since it isn't getting input on how fast the car is going?

try checking your speedometer sensor that goes into your tranny....pull it out and examine it. if it broke off and went into your tranny that could be your problem, or something could have broke in your tranny and broke your sensor. either way it doesnt really sound good. whens the last time you changed your tranny fluid?

Without the codes it's most difficult to know what happened. However the possibility of vehicle speed sensor failure is somewhat likely. I would have a transmission shop pull them and we can go from there. Just don't drive it and make it worse.
