Let me start of by saying I have the worlds most problematic dsm I think.. Ever since I got it a year ago I had problems with it ever since. (the reason im starting off from a year ago is becuase ive had the same problems ever since day one!) When I first got it I hooked my datalogger up to it and seen that it had 3 or 4 error codes..knock sensor(unplugged),TPS,CAS etc.. I plugged the knock sensor back in and for some magical reason all the codes went away!.. I took it down the road and right when I was coming back home the car goes DDOOOOOOO!!!!!!! and what I mean by that is it felt like it ran on two cylinders but if you keep revving and reving and got it above 3,500rpms its like it revved real clean and it was fine...but when you turned it off and started it again it ran and idled fine like nothing ever happened....until you took for a spin again and then it just did it all over again. ok so I replaced the transistor (my original one had a huge hole in it.. and I thought (HEY LUCKY MEEEE!!!) well it started fine but guess what it did it again...then I replaced the coil pack still no luck.. well I finally replaced the ecu and it ran fine and never did it again... well for a month I drove it to work (minimum wage job, just thought I would throw that in there :thumb: ) and the transfer case locked up on the highway and almost killed me...so I traded a friend (headache for another headache) well he gets the tranfer case recalled and he gets to drive it for a week and guess what..?
DDDDOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!.... and he never drove it again.... I get rid of the car I had and buy my laser back from him.. we get to looking at it right when im getting ready to buy it and im like "lets see if it will start" and it starts right up.. so I buy it from him.. and its drives fine for a week... but then I go to start it and it wont start and it backfires bad! well I replace the coilpack again! replace the fuel pump! replace the ECU! replace the coolant temp sensor!, replace the TPS!...replace the ICS! ( just because), Ive replace the plugs, plug wires so many times! Ive been through so much with this car and just cant figure it out!? at one time I checked the spark and it only was firing on two cylinders but I replaced everything there was to replace! and now it shoots so much fuel in the cylinders it comes out of the cracks in the manifold!.. do you think I could have a short in the wire harness?

Well, as far as the fuel goes, I'd take a close look at the fuel pressure regulator. If it has ruptured the diaphragm, it will just dump fuel into the intake via the vacuum line. If you have fuel in your vacuum line from the fpr it needs replaced. Which 2 cylinders have spark and which 2 do not? And yes, it could be wiring, but more likely it's a component failure. Most common are of course the CAS, the igniter, and to a lesser degree coils. You are going to need a "factory service manual" These are manufactured by Mitsubishi for their professional technicians. Get both volumes one and two. Go into the diagnostics and I bet with some due diligence you can be rewarded with a good repair. It's not going to fall into your lap. You are going to have to hunt.

Good Luck

I just went and checked and there was no fuel in the vacuum line coming of the regulator.. I have noticed though, everytime I go to start it the boost gauge will go into psi (like when its turning over it will hit 5psi) something must be telling my ecu im boosting or something?

also, I forgot to mention that it did this same thing before I traded it.. I replaced the ecu and it started up fine! see this is what is scaring me ive replaced the ecu three times and it pretty much fixes the problem but it just comes right back. Im kinda scared to replace it because I think its shorting my ecus out.
