I have a 91 eclipse gs n/t with automatic transmission, which is in limp mode. I tried the voltmeter test and i got the codes 52 2nd gear incorrect ratio, 84 open/short circuited shift control solenoid valve b, and 43 open circuited shift control solenoid valve b. The car also makes a funny knocking sound right before i come to a stop, it almost sounds like somebody is hitting my floor board with a hammer. I found something about a rear clutch that might be slipping and i was wondering if i replaced it if this would maybe fix my problem?

Wow. Let's see. Yes, the wire has to be repaired. If it's a shift solenoid wire, you will lose everything but 3rd as it's the ony time that the solenoids don't need power. In first gear either the yellow/green or the orange is powered up. In second the other one is powered. In third, neither is powered. If the TCU senses something wrong in the trans, voila, it goes into limp mode. (That's the short of it)

Knocking noise? Without seeing, or hearing, my first thought was inner cv joint. If they go really bad, they can sound really bad.

Good Luck

thanks for the help, i will probably fix it later today if i get my jack back. I was also wondering if anyone could tell where these wires go because i think i might have to take my pan off to get to the rest of the broken wire. The wires i am talking about are right below the dipstick, they have a little boot type thing that slips over them.
ill try to post a pic to show what i am talking about.

Those are the shift solenoid wires I had mentioned before. On top you have pulse generator A and pulse generator B. Check and make sure both of those are in place properly as they monitor movement within the transmission so the tcu can know which gears the transmission is in. They too will make your day miserable if they are not hooked up.

Good Luck
