Lethbridge,
I just finished dropping a '90 engine in my '97 Talon due to crankwalk. I finally have every thing hooked up, and started her up. The starter turns over the engine, but it won't start. I pulled a sparkplug, and they are wet and there is gas in the fuel rail. So I got a spark plug tester and found out there is no spark.

Things I tried
1. new plugs
2. new wires
3. tried both '90 and '97 coil packs
4. cleaned up grounds

A couple other comments, the power pack (igniter I think) is hooked up but right now not bolted to anything, as well I relocated the coil pack on top of a aftermarket intake manifold.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Jeremy

Are you using a 1G or 2G head? Did you swap a 1G cas in? Did you check the rewiring part? I have never done a swap yet but I did a little search for you and came up with this thread, I suspect the problem is with the cas.

I'm using the stock 1G head, as well I left the original CAS on the head in the exact position it came in. After doing some research on RRE's site and Magnus my impression was that the '97 didn't require me to change the firing order or rewire the ECU.

I also bought the RRE CAS wiring harness. The only problem I has with it was that the owner before me had disconnected the crank angle sensor. So I found the plug that I believe was the ECU side of the crank angle sensor and spliced the white wire from the RRE harness to the blue wire in the plug as shown in the RRE wiring diagram.

My question is would CAS problems prevent the coil pack from firing at all?

Yep !!!! The CAS is the triggering device for the ignition system. It is the device that tells the igniton "when" to fire. If it fails in its job then you have no fire.

Good Luck

Im having the same exact problem... i mean i have done everything the other guy has. i've changed the transistor pack, a new CAS, went over the wiring... everything looks fine.

im running AEM... hell i have even used a stock map with stock injectors and taken fuel out to the point that its 0.00 all the way to 3000rpms and 6.03 load breakpoints... and still nothing.

the car ran great 4 months ago when i had my last built motor.

sorry.. not to steal your thread, actually were looking for the same answer!

please anyone.

Thanks for the help guys, funny my problem was the CAS, I looked at the wiring harness and thought now I didn't even check which pin was #1 so I turned the plug around and, ta da it started up. So now my 6 bolt swap is running pretty nicely, its good to see it going after 4 months in the shop.
