Replaced my oozing knock sensor today on my 1g turbo and all i can say is omfg!Just like a new car! This is my 3rd turbo dsm and this one was slow as my 2gnt and couldnt take it anymore.Finaly traced it down to an oozing knock sensor.Easy replacement too. Just took out battery and starter.Took no more than 20 minuts. :thumb: Next is gauge and controller . :rocks: hehe!

Basicly if its oozing out of the back, replace it !LOL .Thats all i did.My head was rebuild and alot of other stuff ,but still had no power.Pulled timeing like a mofo.Checked knock sensor then replaced it .Now im back at my "snap your passengers neck"stage again LOL. :sneaky: I just used a stubby adjustable wrench.Oh and this is for my 1g turbo.NOT for my 2gnt.

Hey, When you say you was pulling timing, was it because you were getting a lot a weird knock at odd times, like just after getting off the gas????I just started getting knock and my knock sensor is gewing some .

Not really.i just had alot of phantom knock all the time .Once and a while my power whould kick in and at bad times like takin off at a stop light.

I had some knock too and replaced my knock sensor. It really helped at first, car drove great, pulled hard. Now, I got the phantom knock back again, so I am going to go for the lifters now, Hopefully it will solve all the problems.

If you have a logger, check your CEL codes, 31 bad knock sensor. If you have a bad knock sensor the ECU automatically defaults to 9 knock count and pulls timing.
So if your logging a lot of 9 knock count this could be a sign of bad knock sensor.
Just went through it myself. New knock sensor and it all went away.

I'm having an issue with, I believe, timing being pulled. How exactly is that defined anyway? (sorry for the noob question :coy: ) My CEL isn't on so I don't believe I have any bad sensors, but am I wrong thinking that? Could my Knock sensor be bad/reading wrong even though I do not have a CEL?

Mine was bad.No cel.If its oozing id say its bad.

Oozing? Oozing what? Oil? Gas? Soudns like a new project for myself, what's the price of a new OEM knock sensor? I've already changed about every critical sensor you can think of and could probablly use one of these as well. They are on the back side of the head under the intake manifold, right?

Well there is black goo inside the sensor itself, over time gets hot and leaks out.And yes thats were my sensor was.Mine was 45 bucks but was for a 1g.

Going to see if knock sensor came loose or something tomorrow.Just cant figure out why i lost power again.Need a damn logger. And its all cool!

You'll need a logger to know if you're timing is being pulled. Clues that your knock sensor is going south is that no matter how rich you tune your car, you still get excessive counts of knock (or if you have a 2G, your timing stays in the single digits throughout the rev range).

CEL won't come on for the knock sensor unless you disconnect it, then it will default to a 43 count setting and you'll get no timing advance.

43 is the highest it will read right? the other day while my car was kind of cold still, i was getting huge knock numbers in regular driving, until it finally hit 43... after a few mins, no more knock... i hate phantom knock.

So why not just un-plug the knock sensor and adjust/tune to accomodate the 43 counts of knock? If that's what the default setting will be if it's unplugged.

Because at 43 counts, you'll have no spark advance and your car will run like crap.

Wanna hear something neat? I just logged a 254 count of knock LOL Impossible I thought.

I am constantly getting 43 count, and if its not getting 43 its always giving me 5 or 6 counts of knock here and there. I'm fed up and I'm going to replace this mother and post on the results.

You and I have nearly the exact same setup which leads me to believe that replacing the knock sensor will do you no good since it did me no good. Brand new sensor and I'm still getting high cruise knock (43) counts.

Somebody in one of these threads mentioned that the deadtime for the larger than stock injectors (550's in our case) may be causing this problem. It would take an eprom flash to remedy this problem or some standalone that can adjust deadtime.

At one point I thought the problem was with my fpr but I see you have an afpr and still having the same issue as I am.
Whats your fuel pressure at?

Anyways keep ya head up cause you aint alone.
