weird noise???

I dont know if this is normal but when im at 2000 RPM's my car makes a weird winding noise, like the wind when you reverse. I dont think its the turbo becasue the turbo still makes a whistle, anyone kno of this?

have to be more specific. Does the noise happen when u rev it to 2000 or when ## driving and hit 2000 rpms. Also. If u have some jack stands. jack the car up set it on the stands and get under it while some one holds the car at 2000 rpm's if the noise only occurs when u rev it. Or have them put it in 1st gear and hold it at 2000 rpm's. I would take a listen to ## transmission and the around the area of the timing belt cover. I would unplug ## cooling fans or take out the fuse for them so u can hear the noise better.

I would say one of two things right now. Coud be soemthing inside ## differintal making noise, or could be part of ## timing belt system. A idler pulley or the tensioner arm pully.

just do what i said and let me know what that does for you.

its not at idle, i only notice it on backroads when my radio is off, i put it in first notting, second when it hits to it makes a weird wind, and sometimes in 3rd but nottin higher then that.

i think i have the same problem, i noticed a somewhat grinding noise in 1st, but mostly in 2nd at low rpm's when acclerating and letting the engine rev down from like 2g-2500, and also in 3rd at low rpms, after that its fine. I think i remembering reading about someone saying something about thats the transmission slowly going because those gears are usually stepped on hard , but im not sure about that i couldnt find it again. So i dont know what it is either.

does yours still do this? i hope its not my tranny i'll be screwed... how much does a tranny rebuild usually cost?

Well, I assume you mean "whining" If you get this noise in all gears but fourth it's probably the input bearing and possibly the counter shaft bearings. I would take it to a professional shop to get their opinion as it's almost impossible to diagnose remotely as to the exact noise and possible problem. I would first check my transmission fluid level to see if it's just low. I will tell you this, if you drive it too long and it gets worse you are looking at a rebuild at least and on an awd it's expensive. Have it tested and repost what you find out.

i had the tranny fluid changed a month ago at a quick oil change place dunno if that messed something up, its only seems to be in 1st and 2nd gear

I have 95 GST that is doing the same thing. 1st and second gears only, during hard acceleration.

update: just changed fluid with 75-90W mobil 1, and the whining is still there just not as loud or noticable, i'm going to give it a couple of days and if no improvement bring it in for the rebuild i called a bunch of transmission shops and they all said i'm looking at a bearing. and for a price its starting at 1200

update#2: just got back from the transmission place and they told me the noise i was hearing wasn't form my transmission , but might be my turbo i'm running a 14b and it was supposed to be pretty new. i also can't boost past 9 psi with my mbc i just installed could this contribute to my problem? does a turbo that is going bad make a loud whine?

and i finally have a reason for this strange noise, i believe its my walbro 255 fuel pump! normal
