First of all just wanted to say great site... already found tons of great info and FAQ's

I did a bit of searching, but couldn't find exactly what I was lookin for.

Im doing all this research for a friend, he is kind of computer illiterate...and I know a decent amount more than him about Vehicles.

Now i know his clutch needs to replaced... but what im trying to get at is , what do you think he will need? Just a clutch kit like this one? (The Vehicle is 94 Eclipse :dsm: (Non-T)

*I found this in the Turbo 1-G section, Does it matter if its non turbo?*

Symptoms

Gears not engaging properly with clutch in.. Gear's grinding , etc
Popping out of Reverse
Won't shift down into first unless at a crawl or stopped

This makes me think right away the clutch is worn ... So do you think that kit will fix the problems? Or what else am I looking at.

Thanks for anyhelp.

Sounds more like tranny. Gears not engaging, grinding, can't get into 1st without being stopped=bad synchros at minimum.

Clutch wear would be slippage, ie, rpm's increase but car doesn't speed up relatively, etc.

Oh and if he's going to be staying NT, the 2100 is overkill. That clutch can handle 300+ hp. You could just go with an OEM-like replacement and pay $90 instead of $250. Or you can get the 2100 and never have to worry about your clutch slipping. Up to the pocketbook...

Ahh.... I gotcha. I figured that was a High-Perf clutch.

So you think its the tranny? Ouch... Guess I'll tell him to look into a tranny rebuild, or even drop a new one in. Anyone have a guesstimate of how much it would cost to drop a tranny in there?

Guess the only way to tell for sure is to take that tranny apart and inspect, eh?

Don't get me wrong, it could still be clutch related. Maybe the step is off, or the system needs to be bled. Get on a flat surface, put the car in first with the clutch pedal on the floor. The car shouldn't move. If you start creeping forward, even the slightest bit, the clutch isn't getting off the flywheel completely. Where is the pedal at when it starts to engage? I'd do some more troubleshooting before making a decision. But most likely you will need to drop the tranny unless you need to bleed the system or need a new master/slave cylinder. :D

Alright thanks... Im just going to keep at troubleshooting different possible problems. I'll give that a try when he gets home later.
