Can you blow an AMP?

I currently have a 550watt amp in my car with a 300w sub, one day i blew the sub and smelt the dreded poop smell.And now that iv tryed to use my back up subs the fuses keep poping as soon as the amp powers up. is there something im doing wrong.

I never knew you can blow an amp. WTF

Yes, you can blow the amp. I've smoked more than one.

Check your wiring. Make sure none of the positive wires are touching negative wires. Make sure you have a good ground.

o crap then i think i blew it. does the amp smell the same as when to sub blows is there any way to check it.

It sounds like you didn't check the ohmage load. If the ohm load isn't what your amp is designed for, that can be why it is popping. But, you keep blowing fuses, so that might be a short in the system somewhere. Make sure your ground is to the metal, and that the metal has been scuffed so it shows bare metal.

I have toasted an amp where it did the same thing and it wasn't because of incorrect wiring, it was just toasted, but it would spark and smoke and smell nasty any time you hooked it up and tried to turn it on.
