Hey guys I would appreciate some help here.
I have a 95 non-turbo. First, the timing belt broke and I had to replace it. Now I've been getting 3 codes:
- P0351 Ignition Coil #1 Primary Circuit
- P1390 Timing Belt Skipped 1 Tooth Or More
- P1391 Intermittent Loss of CMP Or CKP
The ignition coil is no more than six months old, the ignition wires are less than 3 months old. I've took apart the timing belt a couple times and still get the same error codes. :notgood:
I checked the ignition coil with a ohmometer and it looks good according to what the Haynes book say.

Did the codes set immediately after the belt, or sometime later? It could be a coincidence and you now have a cam or crank sensor problem (if indeed the belt is right). The cam/crank sensor problem can set the coil code.

Well, to tell you the truth I had the check engine light on before the timing belt came out but the car ran ok (the code I used to get was about the cat not working properly, I changed the o2 sensors and I don’t get that code now), no problems when driving. Now the car has a weird sputtering when I hit 3800 rpm, besides that there is a rough idling if the engine revs more than 4300 rpms. Could the CAS and CAM sensors be the cause of this? The timing couldn’t be better, my father in law and I research it and we have it how its supposed to be, there were some markings of the previous timing belt change that we used also. Any help will be great. thanks :dsm:

A 2G NT expert might like to jump in with the usual causes, but like I said, if your cam timing is right, then most likely you have a failing crank or cam position sensor. These would create the problem you are seeing. A labscope would make it very easy to see the offending sensor and repair it, without it you may be stuck guessing. I just fixed a 97 nt and it had a code for the camshaft position sensor. After he stuck a couple of cam sensors in, I took a look and found the cam sensor was fine, but the crank sensor was breaking down when warm. You could take a shot at the crank sensor (seems like more complaints for this sensor failing) then the camshaft sensor, but I hate to change good parts.
How about finding a reputable shop with techs who can use a scope to see the two sensors? See what it would cost- it may be cheaper to just replace the sensors than to have someone diagnose them.

No it didn't work. I changed both sensors and it has the same problems as before. I would probably take it a part one more time and try that. Someone told me that the valves could be damaged. Could the valves be bent? Anyone know what happens if valves are damaged? :dsm:
