coilpack going bad??

OK I have always had this problem with my car stuttering really bad at high rpm`s, and when i turn the ignition on and off the coilpack clicks multiple times, and randomly when the engine is running and when i down shifted today going off the freeway it backfired really bad??Let me know what you guys think, maybe its just my spark plugs and they are gapped wrong??

Go out and get a Haynes manual or Chiltons. Inside it will show a process for testing your coil pack, also, pull your plug wires 1 at a time while the car is running ... you should be getting a good blue spark. If you are in question of the plugs and gap, change the plugs and check the gap, CHEAP INSURANCE, easy job. Bad wires can cause the problem as well.

Just a few things to check.

coilpack: 4-1-2-3 (leftmost being towards passenger side)
spark plug firing order (with cylinder 1 closest to T-belt): 4-3-2-1

resistance (make sure you touch the BACK of the coil) between 4-1 & 2-3 should read ~15k ohms +-2ohms.

turbo car gap : .028
nonturbo car gap : .044

(use insulated gloves when doing this): while the car is running pull one wire out at a time to see if there is arcing.. if there is, move on to the next.

check compression while you have the plug wires out

check timing while you're there too

timing is at stock 5 degrees btdc (I know because I just put a new head on) and i gapped the spark plugs to .28 at the same time as well.

bpr6es if you're close to stock
bpr7es for more modded DSMs
bpr8es for highly modded ones
