So yeah...i was on the highway and all of a sudden as soon as i started booting i felt like a huge power loss in the car...i tried to let the car go for a while without boosting at all but that was harder than i thought especially going up hill...so right before my exit i put the car in nutreal to see what that does and my car's rpm's dropped to like wayyyyy low like 200rpm...i tried to gas it up a little to keep them up but it died before i could....so i pulled over to the side of the road and called my dad....(i was on my way to meet him) anyways i opened the hood: no oil woohoo, timing belt is fine woohoo...i look under the car and a SHIT load of coolent is leaking out of the car. i though i busted my hose or something cause there was a nice big puddle forming. So i just let the sit. After it stops to leak i lock up the car and walk to the nearest gas station where i have it towed too.

Now i get a call this morning from the mechanic....he says the car is fine, the coolent leaking was from the tube the reservoir and i over heated the car. He said he started up the car and it ran fine but i was down 3 1/2 quarts of oil. now i know i have a boost leak somewhere unless it's blow by. I'm having him do a compression test to see if it's blow by on Monday. Now here is the weird thing, i told him to really take it out on the streets on Monday so see if the boost leak continues. Anyone have any ideas what might be wrong? cause i don't think a boost leak would cause a car to over heat. The whole drive was just wrong from the beginning, i mean as soon as the turbo started to boost it would loose power...u think that's a boost leak or something more. Thanks. plz input

It's possible you blew an intercooler hose off the intercooler (I'm hoping a lower one if the mechanic didn't say anything). I blew mine off one time and it wouldn't boost at all, as far as overheating because of it I wouldn't know because I fixed mine right after it happened.

Did you hear a big pop right before you lost power? Was your engine low on oil before you took it to the shop? :talon:

Being that these cars take 3 1/2 to 4 quarts of oil one may think that is why it overheated. Find out where the oil went and you should find your culprit.

actually they take like 5 quarts according to helm manual....i havn't really looked at the car yet...but i'm hoping htat when the machanic takes it out on monday he notices the power loss too...cause i didn't hear a pop...i have that happened to me once....but the thing is ever since i got the car i've had a boost leak...and so i know how the feels when it's leaking under hard pressure...but this time it was the same feeling but it would do it under any boost....so i'll update once i hear from the machanic on monday.

My bad, you are right about the amount of oil. I meant to say 4 1/2 to 5 quarts. But 3 1/2 quarts is alot to be missing. Your thread seems to be concentrating on this boost leak, but I have never seen a boost leak caust overheating. I guess it could if you were working the motor hard. I was just wondering what ate 3 1/2 quarts of oil. No oil in motor results in overheating and warping of the head.

Good luck
Steve

If you dont have enuff oil in your car. It will not run PROPERLY so if you only had 2 qts in your car. there is your power lose. I didnt the same thing on mine once back in the day.

but i think that there is something more going on here....cause i get a power loss when i have 5 quarts of oil. I notice the power loss expecially when i try to boost in a higher gear...i've logged it too and when i get the power loss i knock pretty badly. All i have to do to get rid of the knock is let of the gas and press it down agian. ERrrrr frusterating....but i would deff have to say never buying a used car agian. THis is my second and i've dumped way to much money into it. BUt that was my mistake from the beginning, i just had to have a talon. Oh welll. I'll keep ya updated

have your mechanic do a _real_ boost leak test, not a driving boost leak test, you can simply NOT find any leak doing it that way. as most others mentioned, the problem was probably oil related, if it's not it might be head gasket related.

well for one i would do those things but it's at the shop and shit...and ant driving it until they say it's fine to drive...cause i cant blowing it up...i rather have them do it....to tell u the truth i dont really care anymore...i'm giving up on this car...from day 1 i was unhappy...i like the car and everything but it's just unrealiable and with fuel ridiculously expensive...it's time to go back to a honda engine....

Okay so after like a week my car has been in the shop.....so my car crankwalked...i did a compression check to make sure it's not the pistons and i got 148 across the board....if u rev the car past 2500 rpm u got a nasty knock sound..and im too afraid to drive it...Do i have any option other than getting the bottom end fixed? I might just try to sell it and see if someone will want it as a project. This really blows. But i deff wont get another one...i'm gonna look for a newer car cause i'm sick of fixing other people's problems. Please give me ur opinions
