Car Not Starting

Heres the story i drop my car off this body shop for a paint job, i get a call and the guys telling me that the cars not starting...so i drove over there like 2 mins away..gave it a jump, nothing..The power is still good, everything is working, lights, automatic seat belt, no signs of loosing power..and im looking all over under my hood for any kind of dissconnection..the only thing i can think of is the starter is shot?? this is what i have new..battery , alternator, spark plugs n wires, and recent timing belt job like maybe 15k ago..i have a check engine light, but i broke my datalogger like last week..stupid me..i know the codes tho by heart..but u never know something else might have popped up..
what it does do is one click and then u hear like a very faint pssshhhhh like sound..kinda like a slow air leak..the lights dim, including headlights...what i did notice before is that sometimes it would start kinda slow like a dying battery, then sometimes it would start fine..anyone can put a input of what they think it is? i plan on buying a new stater, but not till i get some help from this site just to be sure.and if you guys think the starters shot can you guys link me to a site that shows how to remove the starter..my book sucks and its not very detailed..thanks a lot in advance..i hope i was detailed enough..

Sounds like a battery issue.

Hmm... great minds think alike...

Test the battery. Sounds like you have a bad cell.

hey thanks for your input..So if the battery has a bad cell in it, even when i jump it with another car it wont turn over at all? im hoping it something simple like that..i have a warranty on the battery so imma see if i can exchange it tomm for a brand new one..my cars still at the shop so i can mess with it till its done which is tomm afternoon..=/. thanks again

If the car is in the shop get them to test the battery while it's there. They should be able to tell you if it's a bad battery or not.

Sounds like your starter to me. Grab a multimeter and take some readings. Check what your reading is on the battery posts, then check any metal part of the battery cables. You should get around a ~12V reading. If you don't get a ~12V reading off of the cables, clean up your posts and cables. If you are getting sufficient juice and you claim to have replaced your battery and alternator, it sounds like your starter. The faint pssssh sound you mention is probably your fuel pump, get your buddy to turn your car on and go put your ear by the gas cap and that way you can tell if its the origin of the sound. A dying starter will produce symptoms of a dying battery since it takes so much effort for that starter to turn over. Hope this helps.
