Idle surge upon start up to 2.3K, is it normal?

Hi,

I do not know whether it is normal or not but every time I start my car the rpm surges to 2-2,3K rpm and then back to 600rpm. I have two questions for you guys:

1. Is the Eclipse supposed to surge the rpm to 2K for a second or two upon start-up?

2. Is 600rpm for idle a good thing? I know it should be around 1K but mine doesn't seem to hold it..Sometimes it goes around 900 but usually is still around 500-600rpm? Could this be an indicator of a problem somewhere?

id try the idle air control valve, My car idles about 800 to 900 at all times.. I noticed that all Safc, the throttle position is a little off. if any one has a idea about this please email. me.. but Try the valve.

I have found that if my engine (1gawd) runs hot it will idle high. The right amount of coolant can bring it down quicker. Normal Initial Idle should be around 1500rpms the down to the number that you're giving - 1000 - 600.

the idle should be between 750-800 rpms at normal op temperature. When you first turn on the car in the morning, it should idle high for a bit, until it starts warming up.

For the funny idle at startup, it might just be the IAC. You can hook up an ohm meter to that also to check for proper readings. Another thing, when you have the car warmed up to normal operating temp, you can adjust the idle with the BISS screw. That might also fix the higher idle at startup.

As for an SAFC reading the throttle is off, try adjusting the throttle position sensor. to do that, you will have to remove the throttle body and hook up an ohm meter to it. If you need to know how to do all that I can explain it.
