blackish smoke?

I have a '90TSI. I am running between 15-16 psi on stock fuel sys. Using 16g and full 3" turbo back and a profec-B spec. 2. When under WOT, I look at my mirrors and I see blackish smoke. Almost the color of diesel but not being so 'thick'. I think it might be because its running rich. I do not have an A/F gauge or any other form of controlling/meter the fuel. Newer plugs stock NGK's, MSD 8.5, and newer mitsu o2 sensor. What gives?

yes you are running rich but it also could be a small boost leak..
Boost leak tester costs $5 to make and yes, boost leak will make you run rich.

Well the ecu was replaced in January/February by AMS. But ofcourse that doesnt not mean its faulty, but it is running alot better than before. Do you still think I should check it?
If so, check it for what exactly?

Well you take it out, open it up, and sniff the capacitors for a fishy type smell.

How many miles on your turbo?

And yes, you should check for boost leaks.

I do not know how many miles the turbo has. I bought that car w/da 16g.
I did take it apart when I rebuilt the engine, everything looked fine, and when AMS ported o2 and turbo, they did not say anything about the turbo, I would assume that they would told me that it was shot or getting close too. I did lower the boost a bit and that seemed to have helped. Not positive though.
