I have ran a search on the forums on idle surge and i want to know if this is the same thing. I just got my car, its a 99 eclipse gs. What will happen, is wether i have the clutch pressed in or not the idle will go from 500 to close to 1000. It will go up and down and up and down. The only examples ive read here were of people where the rpm's jumped to like 2300. Should i just replace the o2 sensor or is there anyting else i should do ? Also how big of a problem is this? Is it someting that if i dont fix rite away it will get out of hand? or just some annoying thing that i could live with and fix when i have time/money? Plz help?!!!!

Idle surge is caused by numerous different things as I'm sure you're aware of since you did a search :thumb:
Do you have a Check Engine Light (CEL)? If you do run the codes at a auto parts store near you and post what the code is (usually they'll let you know there and what you need to buy to correct the problem) a P1400 is usually O2 related so then you would want to replace the sensor. Otherwise, It could be 'caused by a bad MAF. Could be your ISC (Idle Speed Control) or your TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). To check let your car idle then unplug your TPS. If you start idling normal then that's the culprut.

Thanks for the input, the engine light is not on tho. I should still go and have it checked out by a shop? Also where is the tps located? anyone got a picture?

The most common cause is the ISC
I would start here first.
Here's a link on how to check yours:

If you don't have a multimeter, you can buy an el-cheapo one from radio shack.
It will also do the trick as long as it reads ohms.
And plz don't pay the dealership to test it.
That's what we're here for. :D

Oh and the TPS is here:

Good luck

Edit...my spelling says I'm more tired than you...hahahaha
