Hi!

I was just outside driving my car, it was running like shit: WHen i got on the gas almost nothing happened, the rpm would rise gradually(slowly). when i put it in neutral the car reved just fine. Then i went wot and it felt like the car was wobbling(the rear and front wheels were going at different speeds. when i got to the first turn after wot it felt like i had no control over the car..

After that the rear wheels(the vibration came from under the back seats) started to vibrate(alot) everytime i got over 35-40mph...

any suggestions to what could be wrong?

best regards

Make sure your lug nuts are tight. You might want to proform a boost leak check also.

*shrug* That's a possibility, but it shouldn't be as drastic of a vibration. Tire wear should cause noise and vibration from 0 mph on up start to finish.

I highly doubt this'll be a concern, but check the springs. I just changed a spring that was dead off a 1 g. Might be the same problem with you, but like I said I highly doubt it. Your ball joints might be going out. Lugnuts might be lose, tire pressure could be low.

everything points to the drivetrain though :( it would explain why the car ran like shit allthough the engine seemed fine... what kind of fluid does the xfer case use?

That's why I suggested you do a boost leak test. My advice was assuming you had a boost leak and you were still experiencing vibration.

First step would be to isolate your problem. Drivetrain or suspension.

90W gear oil (I use 75W90).

I'd also check/inspect the driveshaft. If any of the (2) u-joints, (2) carrier bearings or lobro joint went bad, you woudl feel vibrations under the car.

i just went for a drive around the block to show my dad what i was talking about but before i reached 40mph something under the hood started banging and the car jerked... what the hell is happening to my car :sosad:

i had a friend sit in the car as i drove up the street and back again and he meant it was the transfer case. That sure would screw up the output to the back wheels also... i'll have to raise the car so that i can stand under car while someone "drives" it to be sure.

Well i took the car to a mechanic(works with rally cars) and he basically told me i need a new transmission, transfer case and clutch..

So at this point i'm trying to plan things so that the car will see some summer...

I need to find someplace that sells trannys and don't kill me on the shipping, oh and its a big + if the tranny doesn't break after 10 miles :thumb:

So if you have any good experiences with places please list them.

ALso: What years tranny, transfer case can i use? (its a 6-bolt engine) and i assume i need a 6-bolt awd (act) clutch

Best regards

Sounds exactly like what I am going through right now. At first I thought it was the carrier bearings which were sloppy so I replaced those and the U joints. I got it all back together and as soon as I try to back out of my driveway the car dies. I start it back up and drive down the road and try to make a right turn, the rear wheels lock up and drag. The transfer case is new so that wasnt the problem, my problem is the center diff is shot, the spiders went crunch.

I plan on having TRE do a full rebuild on the tranny and get a Speed Design 4 spdr center diff. I think that will cure my problems, its likely that the same would cure yours.

when the mechanic jacked up the pass. side front he could spin the wheel :notgood:

anywho:::

1.Any reputable places i can buy a tranny\transfer case, please list them.. They have to ship to norway too!

2.What years of tranny\transfer case i can use? (i have heard the 97-99 will not work for my 95)

3. what clutch kit should i get? I was looking at the act extreme or heavy duty.

4. should i get a performance flywheel also, or is it ok to use the stock flywheel with the act clutch kit?

Best regards
Tobias

according to this page all 2g and 1g gsx tranny's are interchangeable. I heard someone say the 97-99 will only work on that year range. So if this is correct i can use any tranny\t-case from 90-96 (tsi awd\gsx or laser awd). Correct?

I decided on the 2600 act clutch (now known as xtreme). and i also decided npt tp chnage to an aftermarket flywheel.
