toronto,
OK, where to start with this car tonight... here goes. Driving around 85kmh... when I notice the rpms start to hop around a bit, not the actual RPMS but the tach. I begin to hear a thumping sound coming from the undercarriage.. I pull into a parking lot, and the rear end feels like its locked up, so I figure centre diff gave out. I start the car back up, drive it out of the parking lot, tight right hand turn, the car locks again and shuts off... I restart it and it drives FINE, make another tight right hand turn and it does nothing.
I drive it home, about 1 minute from my house the tach goes all nuts, but the engine remains at the same speed, tach jumps from 2-3-1-2-1 thousand rpms, than just drops to 0, while the car is still running though. Following that, the car makes a series of gunshot like pops and proceeds to shut off....
I than turn it back on, and it drives perfectly fine once again, and I drive it home and now it sits.
Can a centre diff be blown and still drive ok sometimes, and why did my tach go nuts, and wtf were the pops I heard, at the time i honestly thought all my axles juss snapped or I had locked up all 4 wheels thats what it sounded like.
Any thoughts guys?

Check your driveshaft for play if the center viscous coupling is suspect. After that, check that you still have oil in your pumpkin. After that... well, my first reaction would be to check the ECU. The 'gunshot like pops' were most likely backfires or detonation, assuming you mean movie-style gunshots, and not actual ones.

I changed the fluid in both the transfer case and rear end 2 days ago....
My rear end pinion seal is leaking slightly, I wonder if it just let go on me or something, I will check that along with the dirveshaft tomorrow morning.

Used TMO to pull ecu codes this morning, came back with Crank Angle Sensor Code, so hopefully thats the culprit, will find another one and swap them tomorrow.
