Hey guys,
After tirelessly searching the forums tonight, I am still unable to find a solution to my problem. However, before I begin, I'd like to take a moment to thank all of you for offering your knowledge. Though I've been working on cars for a while, I'm still a relatively new DSM'er (just over a year) and have learned a good deal about my car from these forums, as they have become my first source for quick info. Keep up the good work.

On to my problem: It seems that after the engine has warmed up, and i sit in the car at idle i can hear a slight knocking that keeps pace with rpm's. I do have slight TOB rattle, but this is a different one...it continues when i disengage the clutch. Its difficult to describe the sound, as its more of a knock than a rattle, and seems to be coming from the bottom end of the engine (internal), and when sitting in the car, shifted towards the passenger side. This is a 98 GS-T 84k, by the way.

It seems to do this intermittently, and comes and goes...though mostly comes. Not sure what to make of it. I don't think its a rod bearing, because it goes away when I rev the motor to higher rpms. It's been doing it for a few k miles now, and has been more of a nuisance than anything because performance hasnt been affected. Thanks in advance.

Can you get the car up on stands so you can get under it while its running? The exhaust has a heat sheild running in that area. They are bad to come loose and you get that dull sound you talk about.

I was thinking about that, though i havent had a chance to check it out yet. I was under there a few months ago when I put on my cat-back, and i'll be under there again soon when i install my downpipe...might just go ahead and look at it
Thanks
