I just got my motor rebuilt with new pistons, rings, rods, crank, oil pump, water pump. My head was also rebuilt no more than 3k miles ago. I have currently put about 630 miles on the shortblock. Its in its break in process. Ive driven it with care and havent taken it over 3500 rpm's. I have followed the instructions on breaking in the motor. However, i have noticed for the past few days that my oil is starting to smell like gas every time i check it. Why is that? I mean my car always smells like its running rich. My turbo has a blown turbo seal so for that reason i bought an Evo III 16G that i have yet to install. It is just scaring me as to why the gas is getting into the oil. Can anyone help me? What can be causing the oil to smell like gas?

Thanks

Thats fairly normal, after a rebuild I usually change the oil after the first 100 miles and then one more time at 500 miles this gives the rings time to seat because they may allow some combustion to pass through the cylinder walls to the crankcase , hence the "gas smell" thats just me though. :dsm:

Thanks for the reply. Ive read other threads on these situations and it seems like everyone thinks that gas in oil shouldnt be occuring at any point. I dunno, this is just freaking me out. I too used to think that some gas in oil is normal after the rebuild because the rings may not have fully seated yet. Im so nervous that i dont even want to start the car up to f-ck anything up.

I checked it this morning and it smells normal again. The first time i pulled out the dipstick to swipe it, it looked darker than usual & had somewhat of a gas smell to it but not much at all. The second & third swipe the oil looked completely healthy. Im used to it by now because everytime i check it it is always discolored a little on the first swipe. Im installing in a brand new Evo III 16G turbo tommorow morning so ill drain the oil out completely and change it. Ill set the boost to 12 PSI untill i get the Injectors i need. Im also gonna see if my stock injectors are leaking or something.
