I have a 90 talon tsi w/ a 92 motor in it. Where should i begin...first off i have a gm-maft to tune with but for some reson i have no rpm signal. I believe the white wire on the 90 cas is the signal wire but it will blink once..meaning no rpm signal. I tried running it from the coil pack with no avail. I dont have a tach microphone/tach filter (only 90s came with it) so my tach doesnt work in my car. Could that be a problem? I mean i know the cas and the tach should have a signal but my maft is saying it doesnt. Heres the wierd part, my logger shows my rpms all the time, never had a prob with it.
Second: Is there any other way besides a timing light to check base timing for the motor thats in my car doesnt have that piece of plastic w/ the two timing marks on it behind the crank pulley?
Lastly: I can NOT get my timing right. If i turn it even a little bit (although this could have something to do w/ no tach signal screwing with my maf-t) it knocks between 5-12 and ill get 20+ counts between shifts. I have my boost set at 15 now with the cas retarded the entire way seeing 24 deg advance @ 6k rpm running pig ass rich...i mean black smoke and jerking on accel. Im bout to flip out cause this is basically the first problem i've had with this car since nov 04. Any help would be great! :talon:

Check out Jeff Oberholtzers FAQ on 1991-1994 ECUs in a 1990 car. Step-by-step instructions on how to get the tach to work right.

Also the THREAD I opened related to this on the DSMChips forum.

No. On a 1G this must be done via timing light / CAS ajustment. The datalogger will show timing advance, but the ECU assumes that your car is correctly set at 5*BTDC (on a 1990). WalMart carries these pretty cheap as I believe can be ""borrowed" at AdvanceAuto parts stores (let you borrow darn near all single-use tools :thumb: )

Get your setup situated with the tach signal / base timing first and then start to tune.
