Alright guys just wanted to see if anyone here could guess what was wrong with my dsm ('96 gst~spider) before i take it in to the shop, so here's the story. I went to a friends house a few days back and when i was about to leave the car just wouldnt start,..there was no click from the starter no noise at all Except a low "whirrrrr" we ended up push starting it and it ran fine once it was on. My alternator is fine,..My starter is fine i had them checked out and my optima battery is still holding its charge. Any Ideas? clues?

also i think i should mention that my "pedal postion sensor is malfunctioning" i was gonna replace it but havent had the time,..didnt have to much trouble with it tho, not sure if that could have contributed to this start up failure.

Your throttle position sensor is your 'petal position sensor' and that would have nothing to do with startups. You can drive with yours unplugged and it will still start up.

Do all of your accessories work when the key is on? You said that if you push start it the car will run fine, this leads me to believe that the problem is either your starter, or the wiring to your starter.

When you put the key to the starter position and then stop and let it fall back to accessory, does everything come back on or does it just short out?

Also, what did you do to test your starter?

Ok, well first off all of my accessories are working properly when the key is turned on or when its in its accessory on position. The starter was pulled and taken to a local Autozone parts store where it was checked and determined to be in proper working order. I havent checked out this clutch switch sensor yet, it will be on my next to do list for tom. how would i check this and or adjust/fix it?

Its underneath your clutch petal so when the petal is depressed, the car knows its ok to start. Just unplug it, but be careful not to start the car when it is in gear.

First thing you need to do since you said you already had the starter tested, is make sure it is actually getting power to it. Get a volt meter(best option) or a test light(alternative) and check for fire. Also make sure all wires are connected. If it is not getting power check fuses, relays, etc.

ok,...first off i wanted to check out this clutch switch so i pulled it out and try it and still nothing. I'm going to check now and make sure power is even getting to the starter, if not then i will proceed to check all the fuses and relay's ect.

Teeth missing off of the ring gear?

If it was the clutch switch you'd get nothing when trying to start the car, "no sounds". The "whirrrr" sound kind of makes me think AZ did a crapola job testing your starter or you have a damaged ring gear.

Alright, took me a lil while but i got it. I also maybe thought that AZ did a crappy job testing it out so i took it to another place and got it tested, they told me the same thing. So then i started checking the fuses, and wiring, turns out it looks like there was a short between the battery and the starter and it was grounding out. So anyways I'd like to say thank you to all that helped. Now i need to fix my door handle that some stupid **** broke trying to get into my car sheesh. Well at least nothing was stolen.
