Is this a clutch problem?

Well the car seems to be running strong, but every now and then this happens.

say I'm in 3rd going about 40, or maybe 2nd going about 20, lower RPM ranges. Sometimes, I can literally floor it and the car does nothing for a few seconds. The turbo sounds just like it's spooling, but the car isn't going anywhere. The RPMS SLOWLY climb up as the speed increases, but it's very slow considering I'm flooring it. This only happens every now and then though. For some reason it is much more apparent during the day, at night it rarely seems to even be an issue, maybe once in a while, but it's mostly during the day when it's nice and hot outside.

I bought a ACT 2100 thinking that might be the problem. But before I spend money on installing this, I want to make sure that the clutch is the problem. I checked for boost leaks, no leaks at all. And again, this doesnt happen all the time, usually when I floor it I hit boost and I'm off.

Any input is appreciated, thanks.

EDIT: Sorry it's a 96 GST with about 90k on it. minor mods like catback, filter, BOV, tires, free mods.

it seems like your clutch might be starting to slip. but if your at a low rpm like u said and you floor it your car isnt going to pic up like it would if you were at a higher rpm. i know b4 i replaced my clutch it when i would floor it it would stay at a given rpm until it grabbed the flywheel. i dunno about the day and nite thing, my hypothesis is that your clutch is slippin and in the heat of the day the temp heats the clutch up and it causes it to slip more but its jus a guess? Im no dsm wiseman im jus given you an opinion. im have clutch problems ryte now myself. maybe u can help me in the thread im about to make.

I don't think its the clutch. If it were the engine would rev and the car wouldn't accelerate. It seems like its grabbing fine if you can floor it and the revs don't increase. I have seen wierd problems like that come from a computer malfunction. Have you checked for leaking capacitors? Best of luck...

sometimes it grabs perfect and the car pick up like it should..

sometimes I can floor it forever and the turbo will spool and the car and the rpm's dont really go anywhere.

rarely the rpm's will move up a little without the car gaining speed.

any other opinions before I spend the money to install this clutch?

correct me if I'm wrong, but I would think if the wastegate was sticking open it would always stick open, so it would always happen. It doesn't occur all the time. I think I'll get it diagnosed by a local DSM shop around here.
