well my cv joint rubber boot on the drivers side has a slit in it andit spits grease everywhere. my questions is has anyone ever fixed this problem when it occurred without buying a whole new cv? is the a replacement boot or some kind of glue that will keep the slit together.

if it were me, i would have a new boot ordered, but use a silicone to keep it together so i wouldnt lose any grease out of it.... just clean it up, and put some on there and let it cure overnight, and be waiting for a new one to come in, you'll have to repack it and get a CV joint tool (they are kind of like zip ties that go over them and need a tool to tighten them all the way, the band that goes over them that is,) hope i helped a bit, its not like there is tons of pressure, it's just they spin and all the centrifugal force causes the grease to come out.. you probably dont want to trash the whole joint.

I tried doing it myself, but by the time I bought the parts: Mobil 1 grease, CV boot, size 22? nut, CV band clip tool, cotter pins, I was already out over 60 bucks and I dont know the condition of my axle.

I took it to the dealer and have a new axle put on for $200. It was a PITA to work on and my car was on jackstands for 3 weeks already. It was the 2nd costliest repair I had on the car but I did not mind it a bit.

a torn boot means your cv joint is starting to go bad, they call that "early warning signs".every time my boots had a tear, the cv joint was soon to follow.

That's usually because it both loses grease and allows water and dirt in. Catching a torn boot in time will save the joint.
