I was installing a forced performance intake on my 95 eclipse and because of its size, I knocked my wastegate hose off. I did not know this until after my first joyride and hitting fuel cut about 7 or 8 times. I replaced the hose with a longer one to the wastegate and pluged the two houses going to the intake. In the morning I cranked up the car and got half a mile when I realized I was pouring white smoke out of the exhaust. When i stopped and popped the hood there was oil all over the valve cover. I probably did many thing wrong here and am very new to turbo cars so please help with any advice. Thank you. Is it the head gasket or worse?

You blew your headgasket because you ran too much boost. Depending on how much, you may have also cracked your head. Knock on wood, from my experiences, our bottom ends are pretty much bulletproof. Do you have a boost guage? It would help if we knew how much boost you were running when it blew. Before you rip it apart, or have someone else do it, do a compression test first. It's simple and can tell alot. Good luck, I just went through a similiar problem. If you can do the work yourself, its not that big of a deal. :dsm:

How do I do a compression test, I know it may sound dumb but im very new at this.

Also what about the oil around the oil cap. Does this also point towards it being a head gasket or something else. And yes I do Have a boost gauge if I can figure out how to hook it up. Yeah, I know im an idiot... I've driven Camaro's all my life, not imports ( especially not turbos).

As one n00b to another (my favorite saying lately), I'd really wait to get to know your car better before performing any sort of performance mods. To me, figuring out how to hook up your boost gauge first before iinstalling anything that requires much more work, would be priority. Then again, if you're determined enough, you can learn a ton when you have to. Just don't give up. :)

Oil around the oil cap is high crank pressure. To start check your PCV to see if it is clogged. Also swap out he stock oil cap for somethning with a better seal....stockers tend to leak under WOT.

I would take the FP pipe off and check your shaft play before I would take the head off, the last time I saw white smoke pouring out of the exhaust a friends car had cooked the turbo and the seals were blown.

Do you have a real aftermarket boost gauge? Every other poster says head gasket, if your hose was off the gate you overboosted it, Im betting the turbo is blown. :toobad:

Im confused as to which 2 hoses you plugged going into the intake, you may have blown your head gasket and toasted the turbo, if you plugged the one on the side of the valve cover and the PCV one then you may have, we need some clarification as to which 2 hoses you plugged.

I plugged both hoses only the hose going to the valve cover when the smoke started and had no hose plugged when i was hitting fuel cut. The car seemed to be driving fine while the white smoke was pouring out but i did not drive it far enough for a good evaluation. I will buy a compression gauge and do a check and let you guys know the results soon. Any other questions about what I did or advice you have please ask because I have no mechanical experience and I really can't afford a mitsu tech at the dealership diagnosing and fixing this problem. Thank you.
