ok to make a long story short, i was at the track last sunday and my oil cooler got loose and i lost all my oil comin off the track. good news no knockin or anything, i caught it in time. bad news is now that i fixed it and took it out on the street. my boost leaks now. the turbo is only a year old so i really hope it didnt crack. is there some tests you can do to make sure its not that. i have a t28 and boost control with a 1g blow off reserc. should i take the turbo off first and check it or what?

Loss of oil has little correlation to boost leaks or cracked housings.

More likely the turbo was damaged due to the loss of the fluid wedge btw thrust bearing and shaft so is not operating well.

Pull the intake hose off the turbo and check the wheel for physical damage, freeplay (vertical and lateral) and that it spins freely.

so you dont think it could possibly be a vaccum hose, or my vaccum tube to my guage being loose or anything like that? or is it a very good possiblilty that its my turbo. i havent had time to look at it. im a very busy person. hense the many ?'s. thanks

i did the check of the shaft and free play of the output side of the turbo. absolutely no movement anywhere. i checked the vaccum tube from my gague and it looks ok, i also checked all the vaccum lines that i could find. i checked the intercooler pipes also, nothing there.... so im thinking it is pretty much narrowed down to the blow off right?

Let's start with what do you mean by boost leak? Is your aftermarket boost gauge not reading as high as it did prior to your "incident", are you hearing a strange noise on boost or other?

FYI.. pressure testing the Intake is really the only way to accurately diagnose leaks as they are not always obvious to the eye.

dont know how it happened but my problem is no more. i think it was just that the vaccum tube on my boost gague was a little loose, because it didnt "leak" all the time. also i have an autometer aftermarket gague. when i was checking the boost levels i used my stock boost gague and it didnt go down so i knew it was the gague then. thanks for the info though. im not hearing any sounds or anything. everything is fine :thumb: :dsm:
