I want to know how to remove the head...

I can't find a vfaq anywhere but I would like to check out what all is involved to remove the head from my 2g, as I have a feeling I'll have to do that this summer to replace my 120k old head gasket and replace my headstuds with some arp's. Anyone know where there is a vfaq for this sort of thing? Other than the DSM CD.
 
Check www.vfaq.com and look around on that site, get a haynes manual for a rough guideline, but that is usually the long way to do it, and search around this site, there are plenty of threads on this, you are bound to find what you are looking for. Good Luck.

I've been in and out and thru all over vfaq looking for that. I've even been searching dsmtuners and dsmtalk for weeks. I havn't found anything that is viable. Knowing my dumb ass I'm looking in the wrong places or something.
 
Here is a great VFAQ. Only thing he did I didn't on my rebuild was take out the power steering pump, instead I rolled it out of the way. http://www.plymouthlaser.com/hreb.htm Have fun it's a PITA bring a friend and beer will take you all afternoon your first time around.

Edit: Just noticed you have a 2G that write up is for a 1G...oh well should give you an idea of what's involved.

That vfaq makes it look so much less intimedating (sp) than what I thought it would require. The only part I hate is setting the cams and timing belt. It just makes me nervous, like most people. I wonder how much different it is for the 2g than the 1g though.

it's easy, take off the valve cover remove the bolts holdin the head to the block, 12point 12m bolts... torqued down like crazy, remove the o2 housing and all other things connected to it, exhuast manifold and blah blah blah... pops right off

start from the center bolt on the exhuast side the break loose each bolt in counter clockwise patteren .....remeber to break loose not un screw the whole bolt out da head
you don't want to warp the head

after you break loose all bolts start again from the center and unscrew each bolt in counter clock wise then take off the head

its the same operation in reverse to put the head back on
 
The torque pattern is a criss-cross type like when you put your tires on. Here is the pattern from the shop manual for removal, reverse for install. Take them off in steps too don't take them out in one shot. Take them out like 15lb on each bolt going through the pattern, then another 15 then take, then all the way out is the way I do it.
