What should I do while I'm putting a new head on?

OK, I met a guy who says he can put a new head on my car since I bent some valves, etc. for really cheap ($200). How much is a new head? What else should I do while I'm knee deep into my car to get the most out of it? I'm just looking for simple upgrades to get just a little bit more out my engine, if we can salvage it.

Start with maintenece. Put on a new headgasket. New head bolts, or studs whatever you like. And you definatly want to put on all new belts, including the timing belt and tensoiner. Performance wise, I guess you could throw some cams in the new head.

Well, what's the cheapest you think I could get all that for? Everything except the cams that is, just to get the car running again. Parts only...the guy I talked to told me he would do it for about $200 as far as playing for the labor goes.

I went with a Felpro gasket set, which includes the HG and all the other gaskets you should change while your in there, for about a hundered bucks at Autozone. I got new factory head bolts from Mitsu for around 90 bucks. The belts cost around 60-70. Expensive, but worth it

cam seals, new intake manifold gasket, mitsu metal headgasket, arp head studs

then do a complete tbelt job while you have the chance
