ok i tried searching for info on this and couldnt come up with anything. i was driving my '93 GS home from work the other night when i got caught at a light. the light turned green so i took off, i went to go shift into second and it would not let me go into gear  i was like wtf! so i pulled over and just waited till the next day to check it out. i had my bro in his '91 gst come pick me up. fast foward to the next day. ok so im back at my car and i was checking my clutch fluid, and what do you know the resavour was completely empty. so i was like ok maybe i just need fluid. so i put some in and bleed the clutch to make sure there was no air in the line. and of course that didnt fix it. so when the car is off it goes into all the gears but when it is running and i have the clutch in it will not go into any of the gears. when i try to start it when it is in gear it will kinda jump foward when i first turn the key but will stay in place after the car in running. do you guys think i just need a new clutch or what do you think i need. thanks

1. Check the slave cylnder for leaks, replace if need be.

2. Check under your dash for leaks at the master cylnder near the gas pedal, replace if need be.

3. Check the rubber line under your intake pipe for cracks and leaks, I would replacement this with a ss line anyway.

4. Bleed the system prescribed here. http://www.plymouthlaser.com/slave2.htm

i know my slave cylinder is leaking so im gonna need one of those, but my master cylinder is fine no leaks. and ill just replace the line under the intake pipe. and will parts from a '91 gsx work or is there a difference. and if this aint the problem then is it time for a new clutch?

91 parts are the same but slave cylnder isn't something I would buy used. I also want to stress the importance of following the procedures in the linked article when bleeding.

ok so ill go pick up used slave cylinder, and i really didnt follow the whole bleeding procedure, i just had my bro pump the clutch a couple times until there was a steady stream coming out then i tighten the valve.

do you think this is the problem, cause i was planning on just changing the clutch tomorrow. i would be very happy if it was just the slave cylinder but do you think the clutch is gone. i dont think it is cause it was fully grabbing before this happened. so it most likely is the slave cylinder. and what is the main purpose of the slave cylinder, is it just to pump fluid for the clutch?

1. If your clutch was not slipping before, it's most likely fine.

2. No don't buy a used slave cylnder, buy a rebuilt one from parts store.

3. The link I provided is actually vfaq for replacing a slave cylnder, read it thoroghtly before you post anymore questions.

You have much to search and read before you start this job. ;)

ok well i just got done changing the slave cylinder and of course that wasent the problem. i went down to autozone and picked up a brand new one. i installed it and did the bleeding procedure that was posted and the fluid that came out was pretty dirty. but i had my bro pump the clutch like 5 times and then i tighten the valve. i got in and tried to put it in gear but no go. what the hell could it be???

Make sure that you have checked all of the hydraulic lines thoroughly. currently where the hydro line ties into the slave cylinder the fitting is all messed up and wont seal so the fluid just drains out nicely when u depress the clutch. But go through all the lines and wipe them down so u can tell if they are leaking. Good luck. Brandon [VFRacing]
