toronto,
ok, so im thinking of replacing my cat with a straight pipe (i know its illegal for emissions...but we only live once)

i heard if you do this your chekc engine light will come on, but i also heard that theres a cheap couple bux O2 sensor fix u can do...does anyone have a clue how to do it? and is it transversible (?) so i can put the cat back for emission times (i already looked around for threads)

thanx

You must not have looked very hard. I know for a fact I've answered this exact question a couple of times in the past. Anyway...
Go to radioshack and get 1 Megaohm, 1/4 watt resistor, a 12 Ohm resistor that is rated at AT LEAST 12 Watts (Radio Shack may not have this one), and a 1uF (Micro-Farad) Capacitor. Don't buy an electrolytic (polarized) capacitor - a ceramic disc will do the trick.

Now, go read the VFAQ. All of the schematics and extra instructions you need are there.

maybe have the 02 bung welded into the cat elim. pipe so you can just keep using the rear 02. Also, it's handy for WB02 later.

I do believe that this too will set off the CEL because it indicates a bad cat to the ECU.
I'm fighting the idea of eliminating the 2nd 02 sensor, but I'm not sure as of yet. If I reset the ECU (disconnect the battery) will it reset the CEL or do I actually have to have it cleared? I had an exhuast shop weld on a flange with a electric cutout and while running it open I got the light. Now that the cutout is shut however, the light is still on (actually it is just barely open and the A/F gauge that is connected barely moves on occasion telling me that it gets a reading, just not a good one. I'll go home today, finish the wiring on the cutout, close the cutout all the way, reset the car (great, now it will stall when trying to learn to idle :D ) and post my results.

I reset the ECU and the CEL didn't go off... Will it remain off? only time will tell. Sorry for the long delay but the car was down for maintenance for two days and I didn't get around to it.

CEL went off... It may have something to do with my QTECH valve being stuck open. I am calling them tommorow about replacing my faulty solenoid. I'm reseting the ECU again in a few days after a follow up on my timing belt job.

Is a 10Ohm resistor close enough? Or can I just solder 2 of them together in series?

Thanks,
Chris

Yes, you can solder resistors in series to obtain the desired resistance.

I followed the VFAQ to the letter. I fired the car with homemade elimiator in and it melted the resistor. The resistor was rated correctly @ 14 watts with max of 20 watts tolerance(<14VoltsX1Amp=<14Watts). I used the sensor elimator and put a bung in the test pipe; now the heater is protected in the bung and feeds back the elimnated signal. No more code and I dont have a potential fire starter in the cabin.
