Hey everyone, I have no idea if this is in the right forum or not, ever since the "help" or "problem diagnosis" went away, I have been lost. :)

Anywho, onto the problem.
Me and my buddy have a 90 laser. When we got the car, it wasn't running right. We did a bunch of things and nothing would solve it. So,we did a compression test, which we should of done first. The compression was pretty low, if I remember correctly...60, 120, 0, 45....We decided to pull the motor since the guy that owned the car wanted a fresh motor in it anyways. We came across a few things. Noticed the car had an automatic motor. Various reasons...the head was checked and it was the automatic head/cams. The exhaust manifold was an automatic one too...i think the guy before him found a motor, didnt know what the hell he was doin and threw it in the car.

This is what was done to the motor, entirely...
decked
honed
checked fro cracks
re-ringed pistons (3rd cylinder with no compression had siezed piston rings to the piston)
rebuilt head
shaved/resurfaced for warpage (mind you this is a manual head now)
new bearings
BSE kit
new seals, gaskets from top to bottom

SO, we finally got it together timed perfect, everything double checked. Yesterday was the first time we tried starting the motor. After struggling again, with the 3rd cylinder, we took the spark plug out, not dirty at all. All other plugs made combustion. Well, we swapped out the injector, emptied the gas tank, put new gas in, NEW FPR. Again...140, 140, 0, 140. Again, we have no compression in the 3rd cylinder.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Hmm....Did you check the bore size on the third cyclinder? Are your valves in good shape? How about the seats? And the ring lands on the pistons? Your probably just going to have to tear it all apart again to find out. Its hard to tell without being there.

did you try a wet compression test? that'll at least narrow it down a bit. if it still has no compression on the wet test its either valves or head gasket. do a cylinder leakdown test, listen to find out if its leaking through exhaust valves, intake valves, head gasket to coolant, or head gasket to oil pan. :dsm: :talon: :laser:
