Really i just might. I want to tell the story about my car. Maybe somebody can help me fix it, so that I can drive the stupid thing, since I have so much money invested in this 92 Talon 2.0 N/T. Ok here goes, I bought the car for 810 dollars. It even ran! It had just had a timing belt kit and water pump changed. After about a week I found this web site along with gadsm.org and got really caught up in reading all the info on here and determined that my balance shaft was out of phase, due to the vibration at mid range rpms. So I researched how to fix it on here and vfaq, and I did it. Everything went pretty smooth. Car was running great (for a week). Then the timing belt slipped bent 4 valves towed the car to Georgia (live in Alabama) because I knew a honda mechanic there and he said it wouldn't be a problem for him to replace (lap) the valves and all of the gaskets from the head up (had a small oil leak). Well about 450 dollars later I had new valves, timing belt redone again (by him, not me) and I thought everything was good to go. Well the following week I returned to Georgia to pick my car up, drove it to the gas station on friday ran fine no problems. Saturday morning went to start the car wouldn't start.. Puzzled I continued to attempt to start the car, finally after about 10 min it started, but I heard this awful noise, same noise I heard when it jumped timing and bent valves the previous week. Checked compression, it was fine about 150 across the board (cold, @wot). So the valves were safe, Formentioned mechanic came over looked over everything and told me the only thing that could be causeing this is either the belt or the auto tensioner. So I bought a new belt and tensioner (they were both supposed to be new). So there is another 150 dollars. Reset everything drove the car back to Alabama, car ran perfect!! I was loving my N/T DSM. Sunday morning decided to take her about for a spin and a bath, SHE DECIDED NOW WAS NOT A GOOD TIME -- wouldnt start!!! Same problem as the other 2 times! I reset again, only this time when I drove the car at 3800 rpms she acted like she was hitting a wall, so I parked her waiting on an act of god to fix her. Please I know this was long but help if you can, Buy the car or volunteer to come help fix it. I didnt list all the individual money items but basically there is 1700 dollars in a non running non turbo 92 dsm sitting in front of my apartment.

Very sad and depressed   ,

Chris

Spin and a bath, did you happen to hose down the engine bay? Water in the electronics maybe? Let the car sit for 24 hours to dry out the water, check to make sure your plug wires are snug both at the plugs and at the coil pack.

I hope you have a manual. Have you checked the basics, you have to have spark and fuel.

Cheers,
GTM

My car is running again. For how long? who knows!

Are you going to keep us in suspense and not tell us what you found??

I wasnt using a "special tool" to set timing and it just kept jumping a few teeth. So today I reset timing again with the special tool from Mitsubishi and as of this very sec, it is running. But I really dont see what that tool did that I wasn't already doing in some way or another.

Yegads and little fishies, you got to be the luckiest DSM owner I've heard in a long time.

That thing has jumped time 3 times and not bent a valve. How had you been adjusting it without a similar tool? The tensioner is on an eccentric (the bolt is not in the center) so you must get to the proper tension by rotating and then locking down the bolt. Obviously it never was tight enough and at certain RPM the belt would flutter thus some strange vibration. At some point in the fluttering it was able to jump time.

Knock wood, you got it fixed but just to be on the safe side just take it easy for a while and ease into RPM increases over a period of days /weeks. You don't want it to jump time at 7,000 and be picking the pieces up off the road.

Cheers,
GTM
