I have been wondering what this is for a while but keep forgetting to ask. When my car has been sitting for like at least 30 minutes, when I pull out and start to go I can hear this clicking sound that gets faster if I go faster and slower when I go slower. But it will go away after like driving a block. I will try to get a video if i can figure out my new camera. But any ideas for now? Thanks.

Is it from the engine? If so I'd guess lifter tick which is pretty common among 1gs. There's this Lucas oil additive that should quiet it down or stop it. You can get it at advance or auto zone or whatever car store u want.

I dont think its coming from the engine. But its hard to tell. And I just replaced my drive axles last summer. Im positive its not lifter tick. Its a little louder and has a different tone to it. One thing about the axles though, is the middle part of the axles supposed to be skinnier on the short side compared to the long one? Im really stumped and it doesnt sound right at all, any help is appreciated!

Hey guys, I went to make a video and warmed up the car and it didnt do it one bit. I guess it only does it when its not all the way warmed up? I dont know but it seems fine. Thanks for the help anyway. :thumb:

Yeah I aggree if it's coming from the engine it sounds like a sticking lifter. Yeah there is something like the lucas additive called Risolone. I heard its alot better. But yeah from what you tell me it doesn't sound like its coming from the engine. If you can here it that good I wouldnt think that it would be from the engine.

Could it be like maybe the wheel bearing or something? It doesnt do it everytime. But it seems to only do it if its been sitting for like at least 30 mintutes. Anything would be helpful. It could come from the engine im not real sure its pretty hard to tell.

Oh another thing i noticed is I havnt heard any lifter tick in some time, dont know if that helps or what just thought about it though and I cant remember the last time its done it.

Its probably not a lifter if you cant here it when its idling. As far as the wheel bearing goes not really sure. One of my back wheels squeeked when I bought my car. I thought it was a wheel bearing too. But it turned out to be my caliper was offset so the "squeaker" on the break pad was rubbing the rotor. Can you tell where the ticking is coming from? Front, Back? Which side?

It seems to be coming from the front passenger side. One thing I noticed is one of the tranny mount bolts isnt all the way down. Its like 1/4 out of the hole and it wont go down any further, I tried to tighten it. Would that maybe have something to do with it. Its the first one that goes into the tranny from the mount.

I was wondering something, since it only seems to do it when im driving at low speeds and when its cold out or I havnt warmed the car all the way could it be this? The oil next to the crack was from my finger. Thanks.

And while im posting a pic I might as well ask about this. What is that tube circled in red? I noticed it the other day and its really soft and bloded. Should I replace it? Thanks.

The first pic is of course a notorious cracked 1g exhaust manifold. Plan on replacing that. However, this shouldn't cause any ticking.
The second pic is a water line for the oil cooling system; it is best to replace it as well.

As for the ticking, I couldn't tell you what that is from. I have an unknown ticking that sounds similar to your description, but mine comes from behind the dash, driver's side.

I agree with 19Eclipse90, the second pic is a water line.

But as far as the clicking noise, I would have to say wheel bearings. I have the same problem and with so many miles on these cars, or any car in general, they start to wear and get loose and make noises.

Thanks for the replies guys. How much do those wheel bearings usually go for? Is there any other way I could tell they are going bad? How long and how hard do you think it would be for someone who doesnt have air tools and a garage to do? And when I go to replace that water line, what would the name of that be so I can find it at the auto parts store? Thanks a million. :thumb:

On the hose, I don't know if there is a name for it. I would take it off (be prepared for water splashing out), take it with you to the auto parts store and get one that is comparable. They are hella cheap.

Umm I do not know for sure but I know that they are not very expensive. Another way you could tell if they are going bad would be to jack the car up on the side that you hear the clicking from, then shake the wheel in and out. If it moves then its your wheel bearings.

Not having air tools will not make it go by much slower. It being your first time is whats going to make it go by slow. But I would say 1-2 hour job? I dont know, Ive never done it before.

As for the water line, just take it off and get something similar at an Auto Parts store.

Do you have low pros?

Is your tire flat?
Do your vaccume solenoids click? Look @ my post in problem diagnosis to see what im talkin about.

Eh, leaks can sound like ticking. Is the tick motor-speed or chassis-speed related?
Im not sure what you mean by chasis speed, but what it does is when my car is parked if I start to move it starts clicking and the faster I go the faster the clicking is. But soon as im in second gear you can barely hear it. And I would say after stopping twice then moving again it goes away and doesnt come back.
