psyche! but seriously, my engine crankwalked, the guys at the shop here in minneapolis (who specialize in DSMs mostly) said it's the worst case of it they'd ever seen. you could actually move the crank back and forth with your hand, it would VISIBLY move. at the point they told me this they were in the process of swapping in a new motor, so i thought it was hilarious.
some of the symptoms i had leading up to CW were:
-rattling with the clutch in coming from what sounded like the AC, but was in fact the crank.
-rpms dropped when clutch was pushed in.
-very low idle, even after turning up the idle a bunch.
-very mushy and inconsistent clutch, even after bleeding it.. more than once.
hope this post helps some people out, because i was very uncertain whether or i not i had CW even with these symptoms, and believe me, id read many CW posts.
also, all the symptoms i listed above went away with the new (new-er) motor i put in. and it was JUST a new motor put in, same original manifolds/turbo/fuel etc. feels like a brand new car, it's unbelievable.
