Oil Leak Oil Filter Housing / Lower Timing Cover

This is a long shot but maybe someone has had this issure before.

Just started the talon last night after a rebuild and it ran like a champ... I had a freind in the car I and looked under the car to notice a decent oil leak. We shut the car off and jacked it up. Took the driver side wheel off.

Turned the car on again and noticed that oil is coming out of the bottom of the timing cover right on or by the oil filter hosuing.

Oil leak at idel is drip........................drip ........................drip

Oil leak at 2K is drip.....drip.....drip.....drip.....drip

Belts are staying dry so it's not that far over in there. I wonder if it isn't the block off plug for the balance shaft removal? I did not use JB weld on it just some black RTV. It was 1am so I said #### it and went to bed. I will take the timing cover off tonight and see what the hell is going on but just trying to assess the situation at this time and wondering if anyone had a similar issue once?

Did you rtv the bolt that goes into where the front gear used to be? Oil will leak out of that bolt if you didnt. When you get the cover off, you will know for sure.

I don't think so. I don't remeber putting RTV on any bolt. Isn't the front gear got the block of plate/ freeze plug in it?

I forget now, I did this like 6 months ago. Check out the vfaq.com writeup for balance shaft removal. It has pics with descriptions. I found it for you.

"The pink circled area is the bolt hole for the balance shaft tensioner pulley. When reinstalling the cover, make sure to either get a new shorter bolt, or install the old pulley and bolt. Put some RTV on the bolt threads before tightening it down. If you do not seal this hole, you will have a massive oil leak."
