Fort Worth,
My girlfriend just got a 1990 awd talon that has a rebuilt motor and tranny. Everything is new on it but it seems to be making a scratching sound when rolling. It is not a constant sound, it is kinda random. It is quite loud in gear, and much quieter and less often when rolling in neutral. The sound seems to be coming from somewhere in the engine bay. I drove the car; it drives fine and the sound doesn't affect anything about it. I have no idea what this could be. It sounds almost like a splash guard is dragging on the ground, but I know nothing is dragging. We were thinking maybe a differential or something to do with the clutch but I really can't tell. Do you have any ideas? This sound happened a few days ago but went away, and now it is back. Please anyone with experience, let me know what you found out. Thanks
