Since I put my motor back together I had an oil leak at the front cover. I read the VFAQ the first time I did it but was wondering if there were some more tips. Like should I use RTV sealant and the gasket together or just one of them? I know I need to put RTV on the bolts but where else should I put it? And what type of sealant should I use for the oil pan. I have never gotten it to seal up propberly, there has always been a small leak when I use RTV. Is the sealant from the dealership better then RTV. Please help I want to drive my car really bad. icon_cry.gif Thanks

use grey silicone.(grey rtv)

are u doing this with the motor out? because maybe when ur going to lay the gasket ur touchign the front cover somewhere and its smearing off the rtv.

and i would wait a couple hours before starting the car. the loonger u give it to cure the better the seal will get.

iw oudl wait a day but thats just me and i have time on my hands.

Yeah, RTV is fine. I've found that the grey stuff works the best. The orange and red aren't worth crap. It's supposed to be ok to use the gasket by itself. I sprayed down the whole front side with brake cleaner to get the oil off and then used the gasket with the thinnest layer of RTV on it. Just make sure you get all the old stuff off. That's probably the most difficult thing. NAPA sells a cork oil pan gasket if you want to try that with some silicon around that as well. Also, check that your oil pan isn't bent near a corner somewhere from when you pried it off with a screwdriver.
