Brake Caliper Piston

Simple Question. Worth the rebuild, or just go get a new caliper or one from a jy?

Well, the part that really matters is the seal, so long as that corrosion isn't so thick that it binds anything. I think you have more time in cleaning that one up than it'll cost you to get new.

$30 for a new piston
$14 for a caliper off of a junk yard car.
$150 for a reman caliper.


The whole point of taking it off and rebuilding it was, in fact, binding. The piston would come out, compress the brakes, and stop the car... But it would never completely release, causing the rotor to heat up and warp, and eating brake pads.

After more investigation, however, the walls of the cylinder bore on the caliper itself are pitted as well, so I am thinking get the $14 caliper from the Junkyard.
