I bought yesterday a 97 GSX. 85K miles.
It seemed FINE when i was testing it there, no check engine light or anything like that. As im driving down the road the car has no power at all. So we pulled over and noticed the main hose that comes from the turbo was disconnected from the motor. so we tightened up all the clamps we could see.
i then continued drivin and noticed the car had a fair amount of misfiring and hesitation when stomped on so i thought it was bad gas so i continued on (NO check engine light). I put 20 in gas and 20 miles down the road its on E!!. We then stoped at a rest area and checked things over and nothing. The check engine light did however come on at this rest area. i thought it had a gas leak but it isnt leaking a thing. Iv been trying to think of everything it could be and we havent found anything yet.
So we realized it was dumping wayyy to much fuel into the motor and that was the reason for it runing super rich. the problem is why is it runing rich. so i did some research and found the original owner of the vehical (it was repoed from him) and we called him. he said that he had an aftermarket IC, manual boost controler and a few other mods. he noted that he had it dyno tuned after he performed the mods. When i bought the car it had NO mods at all totally stock. IC was the factory side mount no Boost Controler or anything.
now for the important stuff,
I took the car today to see what codes were active. The guy said it was sometihng with the MAFS malfunctioning or something. he noted that all values for anything related to fuel were at 0 and were not working correctly. he said that the ECM/PCM was in a "limp mode" as he called it. he said basically the ECM didnt know what to do and set all values at 0.
Does anyone know what the problem is?
i was thinking either a bad ECM or a bad MAFS but im no expert.
I did my best trying to give as much information as i can but if anyone needs anything PLEASE let me know so i can get this squared away. I can take pictures if needed also. thanks alot!
