Car Wont Start please help!!!!!

Okay guys I hope yall can help me. A while back I got into some trouble with my car. Detonated and ruined my number 3 piston only . thinking in the begining that it was just burnt valves I took off the head for a larger surprise my 3rd piston was shot so. I decided to just replace every thing on my bottom end while I was close to it I.E. the rod bearings, piston rings, head gasket, pistons. SO i go and do all this. get it done put it all back together and time it had a little trouble forgot you hold the exhuast cam 1 tooth down so when it gets tension it floats a tooth up and matchs marks. well any ways...... I time the car perfectly and try to start the thing and the first try produces just a back fire and the rest nothing. no kicking over not even a try. I havent checked the compression yet it should be good since I put new rings in and all and I can hear compression on it ( you know the lugging noise per stroke on each cylinder I still intend to check compression but im pretty sure its there given the situation. and I dont have any bent valves.) and IM sure I dont have bent valves because I checked them. all of them are in spec .

The only time the car moved when the timing was off was when we pushed it out the garage and my foot slipped off the clutch and poped the clutch which didnt start the car but probably turned the motor a little ( going under 5mph.) Any ways the needle is E but I think there is about a gallon of gas in the car I figured it would be enough to startthe car then take it to a gas station. but I can teven get a kick over any thoughts on what might be the problem . Last time it was carb cleaner in the intake that did it. but Im just alittle more scared this time. any help greatly appreciated.
 
oh man!!! i am having the exact same problem!! right down to the letter!!! i had to do some work to the timing belt as it was a little loose and running off track so i fixed the problem and put the car back together and tried to start it and all it did was turn over. so i rechecked timing and saw that i had forgoten to advance the exhaust cam one tooth and so i took it apart again and move the cam over one tooth put it back together and cranked and all i got was a backfire!!! i've checked everything and the only thing i can think of now is if its my coolent sensor reading the wrong temp or my fuel injectors not firing. cuz i have spark, fuel and my timing has been checked 3 times and i've had 2 backfires. i'm completly out of ideas. any more info guys?
 
Yes im getting spark checked it like ten minutes ago and as for fuel not sure but i can smell it on the spark plugs when i took it out and then when i cranked it with them out i could see mists of fuel and air so im assuming so. one crazy thing was i had the vacumn line from the FPR pop off by itself when trying to crank it but i dont know why manifold pressure would spike while cranking. like I said I can hear the compression as well when the motor turns over. It isnt like it just turns over easy like a motor with out compression does and it has new ring so not likely to have bad compression. time perfectly checked it again. every thing lines up. tried carb cleaner in the intake still nothing about to stry starter fluid.
 
Hum....my friend's father's volvo is doing the same thing, I'm going over there after work to help him. I'll let you know if we find any fix.
 
hey all. i went and bought a noid light set and i plugged one of the lights in to one of the fuel injector harnesses and i didn't see a light when i cranked the car over. so i don't think my injectors are firing does anybody know why the injectors wont fire?
 
HEY is there any one out here that has real help and not posting similar problems with out the solution. ive been searching on my own and yet to find a solution just killing my battery trying to start it.
 
Well still no help or any clues from the tuner community so i continue to attack this problem on my own . double checked head studs etc and went to see what the deal is they are fine 65ft lbs of torquq on the head. ( maybe alittle more) but disturbed as to find that my coil pack may have shorted out. it has open wires right near the connectorplug that can contactor arch never noticed it before. I was sortof thrown off the trail of an ignition problem because my master mechanic that i am apprentice to told me it was most likley a burnt valve simple job liek it was nothing special and never would give me a coil pack to swapp out and see what happens!!!!! :mad: now i look at the 91 coil pack and it has corrosion on the 4 th cylinder plug hook up. in addition to the bad wires on the coil pack.


i originall looked at ignition as a problem cause when it started acting up it was just like when i had my laser and my plug wires went bad. hesitating knocking etc. well this tim i opened my hood and saw sparks going where they had no business going like out the sides of the hood of the plug wires and on the coil pack spark was JUMPING FROM COIL TO COIL i figured it was plugs and guess what 20 miles down the road i got to a walmart and autozone got some accel wires for my car condition greatly improved but not totally

i could at least drive my self to get to college in NC from henderson like 50 miles out. gas mileage was horrible. So Im just gunna tell every one with this problem to Swap coil packs and see what happens and consult your ignition system for knock and hesitation and failing cyinders . park it tow it then fix it dont drive on it or youll have ####ed pistons and more stuff to deal with. Any body who has any other info should post . im gunna go try this coil pack when it gets here mean while im gunna rebuild mine since i got 3 90 coil packs but i need a darn 91. LOL what was mitsu thinking changing every thing every year. :laugh:
