I think my 14b is giving up

Well I think my 14b-turbo is going to crap out on me soon because When it spools up I get black smoke.....No matter what I try I cant get over 8psi in boost....When putting on new intake There was a nice puddle of oil sitting in the intake housing...My friends noticed when I boosted they could hear the turbo spool more through my muffler than the engine bay I dont know if thats normal,,,I ve checked the compressor wheel Its spins freely no grinding on the turbine housing.....So do you think its giving up.......Thanx for the input

I would check for shaft play in the turbo. In-out and side 2 side. Doesn't sound like its a bad turbo. The turbo sound coming from the exhaust (especially if you have an aftermarket or larger) is louder than from the engine bay. The black somke is usually from improper A/F settings (usually too rich). As for the cant boost over 8psi, ??? i would start by checking for boost leaks or a malfuctioning boost controller. Good luck.

check for boost leaks, could be a bad 02 sensor, could have a kinked vacuum line, could be a cracked exhaust manifold, or turbo, their are some ideas.

Ive been trying to find this leak in the system forever....If there is one I had my mechanic check for leaks and he said everything was good....There is no shaft play from the turbo at ALL and the turbo sounds Real nice when it spools and it spools very quick....I am running very rich I dont know why though

I think your turbo would be fine unless the smoke was white or blue. Definately check for boost leaks.

Well someone it going to call me a dumbass but o-well.....Today I took of the mani heat sheild and reved the engine from the throttle and bam ...Mean ass manifold leak at the very end of the manifold on the left ..time to change gasket......Could that be why its running rich...I know thats why its not boosting right
