OK, I did search for this and nothing matched my problem. I got this car (95 TSi AWD) two days ago and this is frustrating me. The clicking noise comes from the rear of the car, but only when deccelerating and coasting to a stop, the noise stops when I accelerate which confuses me. It is vehicle speed related as the clicking slows as I come to a stop. Tapping the brakes or anything does not change the sound neither does the lifting up slightly on the e-brake. My first thought was maybe the rear differential but I don't know why it would stop when I get on the gas. It's cold here, and this sounds appears as soon as I drive the car and never stops. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Anybody? I don't know if this is serious or I should get this looked at immediately? Car doesn't drive any different just that noise.

check all suspension bushings, and bushing that mount diff to vehicle, with out hearing it first hand it would be hard for anyone to help, u-joints usually cause vibratation to

Mine had a clicking noise like what you are talking about. When I replaced my clutch a few months ago, my mech noticed my U-joint was bad. We replaced it and no more clicking. I'd check that out.

Ok I'll check that out as well as the bushings, I'm not really noticing too much vibration...

Warped rotors? Loose lug nuts?

I don't have any braking problems like pulsing or vibration so I wouldn't think rotors, and I'll check the lug nuts but I doubt that loose nuts would only make a noise during decceleration.

I was having the same problem also, from the rear passengers side. I thought maybe it was a wheel bearing, but I finally narrowed it down to a metal part associated with the e-brake. It raises when the e-brake is applied, and mine was loose so I wrapped it with heat shield for an exhaust system and it took care of it. It's rigged up and I dont recommend it.

But you may check to see if thats what is causing yours.

OK I will check that out too. If you lifted the e-brake while driving did that make any difference in the sound? Because I tried that, and it didn't change the noise at all.

did you ever fix the problem b/c my car is doing the same thing i think it does a horible clicking when deccelerating and downshifts (duh) then quits when i accel
