well i finally got my AFC and 650s in the other day to help provide the fuel for this evo 3 16g.... i got the low trims set and everything was running ok considering the circumstances... i followed the 'definitive piggy back tuning guide' in the tech section...
anyway i hit up the interstate to do some logs for the hi-trims.... did one pull... and started boost creeping... so eh... i let off when it got to about 18 - 20 psi.... go for a second pull, and obviously the same thing happens... but now, the car runs slightly rough... almost like the timing is off... idle, low throttle, boost or no boost....
the log has 0 knock up till about 3500, then it hits about 7.... then at 5000 it shoots up to 43 counts... i have revised lifters and i didnt hear any abnormal noises from the motor...
checked for intake leaks today, and there arent any that could be significant enough to cause this problem... compression is nice and even all the way across.... i have brand new NGK wires, and i checked the plugs gap today right at .028....
this 'phantom knock' has been around for a little while now... but i was waiting for my AFC to come in, thinking it was attributed to the fuel...
a weird thing ive noticed when setting timing... at first it was really hard to get the mark to stay in a steady location... it would jump all over the place... and sometimes the light it self would stop flashing for a sec or two and then pick right back up again(the motor was definately warm too).... well i finally got it set, checked it multiple times and all was good.... could my coil pack or ign. chip be related to this???
i guess i could display my AFC settings..... they are -16 all the way across (per tech article, said it was good starting point) my EGTs are crazy low.... like 400*f (at idle after warming up)..... and my o2s were reading ~.85.... and my fuel trims were all +-10 off 100....
