well i finally got my AFC and 650s in the other day to help provide the fuel for this evo 3 16g.... i got the low trims set and everything was running ok considering the circumstances... i followed the 'definitive piggy back tuning guide' in the tech section...
anyway i hit up the interstate to do some logs for the hi-trims.... did one pull... and started boost creeping... so eh... i let off when it got to about 18 - 20 psi.... go for a second pull, and obviously the same thing happens... but now, the car runs slightly rough... almost like the timing is off... idle, low throttle, boost or no boost....
the log has 0 knock up till about 3500, then it hits about 7.... then at 5000 it shoots up to 43 counts... i have revised lifters and i didnt hear any abnormal noises from the motor...
checked for intake leaks today, and there arent any that could be significant enough to cause this problem... compression is nice and even all the way across.... i have brand new NGK wires, and i checked the plugs gap today right at .028....

this 'phantom knock' has been around for a little while now... but i was waiting for my AFC to come in, thinking it was attributed to the fuel...
a weird thing ive noticed when setting timing... at first it was really hard to get the mark to stay in a steady location... it would jump all over the place... and sometimes the light it self would stop flashing for a sec or two and then pick right back up again(the motor was definately warm too).... well i finally got it set, checked it multiple times and all was good.... could my coil pack or ign. chip be related to this???

i guess i could display my AFC settings..... they are -16 all the way across (per tech article, said it was good starting point) my EGTs are crazy low.... like 400*f (at idle after warming up)..... and my o2s were reading ~.85.... and my fuel trims were all +-10 off 100....

ok its quite obvious im a noob with this AFC.... i turn the car on and plug up the logger this afternoon... and i guess my computer has finally figured out theres an AFC plugged in or something.... anyway... the lo trim is at 118%... and it it seems like no matter what i do it wont come down.... i guess i just need to start all over from scratch.... and see whats up.... the car WAS running decent with my original settings... guess ill just start over and see what happens... unless i just have some kind of faulty part in the car, i.e. ECU? CAS? IGN CHIP?? etc

Did you remember to ground the timing adjust connector in the engine bay and disconnect your datalogger from the DLC when you tried to set the timing? Having the logger plugged in will put the ECU into set Basic Idle Speed mode not Timing Adjust mode if pin 10 is grounded at the same time as the timing adjust terminal.

yea i unplugged the logger, and grounded that plug.....

ok i feel like an idiot now, and this post is gonna start sounding all crazy.....
i go out and zero everything out to set my lo trims.....
i say, 'hey' ill start adding fuel and see what happens... i go up to about 5% for 1000 - 3000 rpms.... and my lo fuel trim comes back down to 100%.....

to me, this makes no since.... i have 650 injectors.... arent i going to be leaning this thing out a little???? plus it didnt help it run any better... still runs very rough.... and lo EGTs

all was good at first.... this is exactly what i did.... install AFC with stock 450 injectors.... car runs ok.... didnt mess with the AFC at all.... install 650's.... car runs decent considering circumstances.... set lo trims.... and go for a cruise around town.... (no heavy throttle) everything seems ok so i decide to hit up the interstate to set these hi trims.... i do two WOT pulls.... and everything goes to shit.....

<<<< NOOB.... anyway, i found the problem.... i was playing with my logger, and thought about the good old injector test... so i start turning off injectors... the #1 injector wasnt firing due to a bad connection.... i had checked it OVER AND OVER AGAIN.... but i never completely unplugged it.... i took it off, cleaned it out... and BAM... no more problems.... it was the same cyl as the one with my EGT gauge... so thats why my EGTs were all jacked up.... and all my other readings were so crazy because that cyl was getting fuel....
im not an idiot, but im so used to the worst happening i never check the small stuff.....
