Sorry guys, I'm new to DSMs... I know very little about them. I was origninally going to get a TT stealth, but there aren't any for sale around here for my price range or with out a million and one miles on it.... So i bought a 96 TSI w/ 57K miles on it.... Runs fine, aside from the day after i bought it, the BOV spring cap came off... (hose clamp fixed that shit) But I do have a certain squeal comming from the engin bay.... I feel dumb asking this because more then likley its a belt.... My friend has a 98 gst and when its cold he also squeals for a short time when he starts his.... But mine squeals when is it cold and for a good amount of time while driving the car... Squeals alot when in revearse and lower gears 1-2 and sometimes 3rd. once the car warms up... it almost never squeals... any clue to which belt it may be?

Besides the belts the cars have a history of failing harmonic dampners (crank pulleys). The rubber bonding the inner and outer sections fails squeeling is the first sign before it throws the belts.

hey, you also might want to check the bolt that holds the alternator on. Mine squelled llike nothing else But I got to looking and noticed that I was missing that bolt so the alternator was twisting. Unfortunatly when I fixed that my engine took a crap, but that is a different post... :laugh: Good luck!

Might be your alternator belt, same thing was going on with my 95 tsi, just tighten up the belt, that should get rid of that problem...

thanks guys.... ill check into hopefully tomarrow night... Ill let you guys know... other wise ill have them change all the belts when i take it in to get the timming belt done (Not confident enought to do it myself yet )
