Hey, I got a new altenator belt because my old one was bad. I got it on, and I done some other things for a few days without driving the car. Well, I was planning on driving the car today and I started it up and it made bad noises and then it smoked alittle bit, it also leaked out some power steering fluid(I just need a new cap for that). But anyways, I just figured that it was tight enough. So I tighted it up and tried it and it still made the weird noise, I done this numerous times but it didnt smoke or leak fluid. But I checked my manual and I figured that the lineing of one of the pulleys was off. Just like to know what other people think and give me some ideas. Thanks

If you are leaking fluid it could be because the pump is starting to stall out due to lack of fluid. It happend on my old talon. Scared the crap out of me.

Defiant The moderator of the site said "Harmonic Balancer" is this something that I should check out or is it just rubbish like he said "sigh"??? Thanks for any help from ya members.

It turned out to be a problem with my power steering. Just cleaned it up and it runs fine now. Thanks for the help.

it couldn't be the harmonic balancer because he only took the outer pulleys off, the only way it could be the harmonic balancer is if he took the timing belt apart as well.

The harmonic balancer is made up of the outer ring where the belts run, an inner "hub" where it bolts to the crank and rubber that connects the two to lessen the harmonic vibrations to the accessories. When it gets old that rubber can crack/seperate (now the pulley IS a 2 piece pulley...) and cause what seems like a slipping belt even when the belt is tensioned correctly. It can also cause the outer ring to move in and out and throw the belts off or if its bad enough walk through the t-belt cover and take out the t-belt.

i see what you mean now nevermind my posting. i heard "harmonic" automatically thought "balancershaft pulley system" mine was acting up a while back, the pulley snapped, and i got these wierd vibrations, replaced that and the timing belt at the same time while it was all apart. problem solved. to the moderator: my appologise for doubting your wisdom :thumb:
