Ok so I just got my car back after it was repoed for a month:( Well, I sent my brother to get it...

When he gets home the c.e.l. is on...so first things first I check the fluids...

Check dipstick...No Oil!

And checked coolant tank, and no coolant in there!

-I re-filled them both and everything seems ok. Now I just noticed white smoke coming out exhaust, and car sputters when started? Is it ok to still drive the car? What could be damaged and what should I do?

This Sucks, just got my car back and now it's sick:( Only 85k miles btw :thumbdown

How far did he drive it?? It's quite possibly shot from overheating from no coolant, and parts rubbing against each other with no oil.

White smoke, no oil, no coolant, all symptoms of a bad headgasket. I am willing put money on this. Don't drive the car. If your unfamiliar with a headgasket and its job, here is what it is. The white smoke is coolant getting into the combustion chamber and burning off. Thats why you dont have any coolant left. The oil would dissapear also. If you continue driving the car, it will just all burn off again, so maybe you might get 10 miles, but eventully it will empty itself out again. The gasket keeps all the little oil and coolant passageways that run through the engine seperate. It also keeps the cylinders seperated. If the motor didnt seize or warp from the heat of driving it, it definatly can be repaired. A HG job entails removing the head, and plunking a new gasket down. Of course its not that easy, but you get the drift. I just had to do mine, so if you have any questions, dont be afraid to ask :thumb:

It had no oil and coolant when i got it back, nothing seemed wrong, no knocking, power loss etc.

Then I refilled w/coolant and oil...oil is fine but coolant slowly decreases when it sits...but there are no puddles, weird. Drove it for a couple days like it said, nothing seemed wrong.

Checked oil and coolant before I left...a ok...turned it on, started sputtering and louder than usual, noticed white smoke, maybe it did that before but I just didn't notice.

Is there a chance that nothing was damaged? Maybe if I change the spark plugs?

Thanks a lot for your help, really appreciate it.

BTW How much for a new head gasket? Might as well go with a MLS right?

TIA

The best thing you can do right now is a compression test. I'm not sure what the numbers should be, but a serach will easially turn that up. As far as price, since I had my head off, I did all my accesory belts plus the timing belt. Figure 100 dollars for belts, I spend 100 on OEM head bolts, and a hundered for a Felpro gasket. The Felpro came with all the other gaskets too, such as valve cover, intake, exhaust, turbo, etc. Its wise to do it all at once. But I think you can get a decent HG for around 50-80 dollars.
